Replacing door lever cable and Window Regulator?

Hello all

I've been struck with a double whammy of problems with my Ibiza just yesterday. Hot summer weather (hurrah!) has prompted me to lower the driver-side window down fully, and now it can't return back up! Makes grinding noises when lowering, then only returns halfway back up before finally dying when I lowered them fully for the last time.

Upon cracking out the door card I've noticed that the steel cable that holds the hook to the door lever has half of it snapped, so a few steel threads are clinging on to the hook, not a particularly nice thought

My questions are, is it really that easy to replace the window regulator? I've looked and looked and there's only a hole in which I could possibly slide the regulator motor out, and then there's the issue of removing the glass from the clippings and sliding the rails out too! Can the inner metal 'door card' be removed at all?

Secondly, I can't for the life of me find any replacement MK3 door hook cables on Ebay - is there an actual proper name for them, and is THAT easy to replace myself? Seems a bit tricky and I can't find any guides for that job :(

Just done a regulator last week and it wasn't that bad atall. The trickest part was trying to tighten up the clamp that holds the window to the runner, on the side behind the motor, but even so, wasnt too bad.

The metal panel can't be taken out as its part of the door but its easy enough to extract the old regulator once its unbolted and unclamped from the window.

A 2nd person to hold the window up whilst you bolt the new regulator in place would be handy, but not essential, i managed it on my own.

And also, if you can streach to it, buy a genuine SEAT part, its so much quieter and smoother than the aftermarket one thats still in my drivers door

Can't help you on the door handle front, but hope the above helps with the regulator replacement.

Thanks for the reply. How much did your genuine SEAT part cost? I was looking at ebay and thinking of buying a regulator repair kit, as it turns out the cables have split and so they untangled and got stuck in the 'motor spinner' (I think that's what its called, it's the part that screws onto the motor while holding the cables with the circular 'tightener'). That part's pretty mashed up, with plastic shavings everywhere from the split cables, but I'm holding onto it for now, pulled the circle piece out and vaccumed up the shavings. The motor seems fine, I hope!

Would this (//cgi.ebay.co.uk/SEAT-IBIZA-WINDOW-REGULATOR-REPAIR-KIT-FRONT-RIGHT-/180434213153?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a02b79921) work? I can't for the life of me find one of the listed items that I swear had the spinner mould that holds those parts together. Would've probably been much easier to bolt onto the motor and be done with it.

How strange! Mine went at the weekend too! The regulator is about £50 from dealers without the motor. I tried repairing it, got it to go up and down twice, but the grooves that the wire sit in werent good enough and it ground to a halt again! Don't keep trying to get the window up and down because you will knacker the motor too!
Careful on ebay, a couple of the spinner mould bits didnt seem to match up with the ones I had and looked like they were off a golf mk4...
Picking up my regulator on the weekend so fingers crossed.
The trickest part was trying to tighten up the clamp that holds the window to the runner, on the side behind the motor
If you slot the glass in, move the window about 3/4's up so its nearly closed you will see two holes in the metal work of the door where you can easily access the two clamps bolts.
If the window is stuck down, the only way I managed to get at the bolts was with a spanner with a ratchet on it...

Airn - Repairing a regualtor will be more hastle than it will be worth tbh, i would personally buy a new one. My regulator + motor was just over £100, got it from David @ seremotors on here, if you drop him a PM or give him a call, he will sort you, top bloke.

Jaypee - good shout with the ratchet spanner for taking the clamp bolts out, it would make things much easier.
