i got a replacement key, but i opened it up and its different inside.
Do i need a key that looks EXACTLY the same as i dont think this one works. ive tried to synchronise the buttons to operate the locking but to no avail.

This is the key that i am using and that works 100%

And this is the key which i bought thinking it would work...

If i need another one, is there anything i should be asking for when buying it (eBay) as to make sure i get the right one this time.
Thanks

The Galaxy ones DO work :) You just have to make sure the button locations are the same for your fob. The info on the key part (as above) relates to the remote...they have to be the same!

The only other thing I can see thats different to the new ones is the buttons. On the older MK2s, its reversed compared to the new ones. On the older MK2s, the unlock button is closest to the blade when its all clipped together whereas the lock button is closest to the blade on newer fobs. If yours are different, it won't work.

Have you put your old immobiliser crystal into your new remote fob?? Its the little black thing on the inside of the key fob, attached to the part that stays with the blade, and its about 7x3x3mm in size.

ive got the two keys as mentioned above but i guess i need another of the one that actually works :) in which case i need to sell the one i bought and buy one that is of the same which just happens to cost twice as much :(
Oh well.
Not tried the chip yet but figured if i couldnt get the locking to work then it wouldnt matter about the chip.

EDIT: oh and czechboy, you need your old signature back, looked awesome compared to this one ;)

Yeah, this one was a bit of a trial one. I went a bit mad with photoshop
BUT photobucket is down for maintenance at the moment so you will have to keep looking at it for at least another 6 hours :p

I need to take some updated daytime photos of the car, but the weather has been sooooooooo rubbish for the past month

p.s. I'm a bit confused about your two keys. Does your original one work, but you want a second one that will work as well?

Ah man!! It looks like I've made the same mistake.... Mine is the slightly older key type but the number on the side reads the same as my key (5WK4 790/97/98) and is 433.92MHz.... The un-lock and lock are the wrong way around and I changed the 'key' part and that still works as I kept the immobiliser transponder in it but I can't sync the remote central locking. It just keeps flashing and won't go into the program mode!?!?! D'oh! Is that cause the one I bought is RF and I need a IR one ???

However the key i have that wont work for me has different numbers and what not on the side so may not work...
