I've had my car about a month now, and the first time I washed it I noticed that the insides of the alloys were absolutely pitted with muck!!! I don't think the previous owner had ever washed anything other than the outer face of the rims. Even after a few washes they were still manky, so I decided to take some action! So last night on my way home from work I stopped off at Halfords in hope of buying some Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover which I've heard is good, but they had none in. Not wanting to miss out on the chance to sort the wheels with the sunny evening weather I bought some Turtlewax Wheel Cleaner. So let's begin...
Front wheel condition (after a few washes with Poorboy's Super Slick & Suds :/ ):
I sprayed the wheel with the Turlewax Wheel Cleaner and left for one minute to work, then wiped and hosed off. The result was amazing! All the muck had gone and just a few tar spots remained:
Next step then was to clay the wheel to try and remove the remaining tar spots, using Poorboy's Clay Bar and Spray & Wipe. Unfortunately this only removed the smaller spots, some of the big ones are really welded on
So I'm going to have to find some other method/product to budge the rest.
I finished off by sealing the wheel with Poorboy's Wheel Sealant. Final results:
I managed to get the rear wheel done as well before daylight disappeared, so at least one side looks nice and clean! Now I just need the weather to be nice again to do the other side.
Any suggestions on what to use to try and get the remaining stubborn tar spots off would be much appreciated
