Removing Rear View Mirror

Hi, does anyone know the best way to remove the interior rear view mirror preferably without removing it totally from the windscreen itself- will it pop off somehow with a bit of jiggling and a bit of force?

I wanna remove it to paint the plastic part black. had painted it before (used Holt's black bumper paint) but had to paint it in situ and it would be better if I could remove it and do a better job on it.

Cheers,

Andy.

No, it's a real pig to do it that way. It can be done but with lots of force and you may end up with a cracked windscreen. Getting it back on again is even trickier. Best bet is to take the whole housing off and do it that way. Far simpler.

Putting it back on is just as easy!!!!

The main clip stays on the window if you twist to the left (if i remember right0 and pull off, to put back on line up the two clips and twist back into place.

It really is easy and no damage to window!

I might try removing it tomorrow - if your right ear starts burning you will know I have cracked the windscreen and the air will be blue here! :D

as the guy above says.. just twist the mirror, the mount for the mirror is permanently glue'd to the windscreen.

only reason i know this is that I got my windscreen replaced last week and seen the guy remove mine :)

Well I got mine off today. It came off ultra easy which makes me think that maybe some kind of clip is missing or its worn on the spindle or something and it went on with no real pressure as well. Very strange I was thinking it shouldn't have been this easy to take on and off myself.

Only bit of black paint i had lying around in a tin was blackfriars semi-gloss (sheen) black. Not a brilliant job , it should be dry now (left it drying for hours) but it still feels very tacky! :(
