hey, well i'm sick of the air conditioning in my car, i dont like using it , and i want to get rid.
right, nowi know that i need the new non-AC belt.. but any chance someone can post a pic of the A/C compressor/pump, as i dont know where its located..
just a couple more questions :)
how much weight am i likely to save doing this?
what happens if i do press the A/C button in the car? doesn't throw a wobbly does it?

cheers :)

Its the one under the alternator mate. Weight loss isnt going to be mega so dont expect miracles but it will take strain off the crank and get air through your radiator quicker. And best of all it removes a fair bit of clutter from under the bonnet

is it possible to get rid of most of the air/con system in one go, but to leave the part on that uses the old belt for now? as i want to crack on with this tomorrow night, but wont be able to get the belt until i go to the dealers

Id do it all in one if i was you bud, it doesnt take too long either, i done my mates just last week in only a couple of hours all in. Its easier if you remove the radiator aswel as you'l be able to get to the pump bolts abit better

Id say so mate yes. When taking bits off like the bumper, crash bar ect... just put them back on exactly how they came off and try and keep it so you know which bolts came from where. Only thing thats a pain is the brackets that hold the radiator on, but its only that there not easy to get a ratchet on, piece off piss with ratchet spanners tho. If you were closer id say pop down and il give ya a hand with it

glad your still on the site! helped me a lot. it sounds quite easy to do actually, so i will give it a go once i get the belt.
anyone know how much they are likely to cost?
i've got some ratchet spanners, so hopefully they are the right size!
how did you go about getting the gas out? did you just wear gloves and a mask in the end?
shame bristol is so far away!

Belt should be around £15 from the dealers, think the part numbers in this thread aswel.

All i did to let the gas out was to under the condensor (the canistor on the left hand side of the radiator when your looking at it), just undo it a little until the gas starts coming out, then walk away and let it release fully until you remove it completely.

You'l need to pop out the washer bottle to get the big pipe off as its botled underneath it, then just take all the pipes off right back to the brass coloured block behind the coolant bottle
