I rang my insurance company..... Zurich about the cost involved if i remapped my LC.....they have just got back to me,and said they will not insure me if i remap.Does anyone know a decent insurer i can get a quote from, that may be a little more understanding.

Cheers

try the performance people in back of max power mags. If your under 25 (like me) it's even more difficult to get a main stream insurance company (direct line etc.) to quote for mods. I've got to wait till I'm 25 to get mods on mine when I pick it up on Saturday.

Luckily for me, I'm 25 on the tuesday after I pick her up.... so don't have to wait too long!

Hi,
just wanted to ask how much are you paying for insurance being under 25? Im 24 but coming up to 25 in december, just brought a cupra r and pick it up on saturday. I found i could get insured with most compaines but for adrian flux it was £930 including driving other cars etc etc.

Admiral was the cheapest at £800 but not to drive other cars etc.

It all boils down to a bit of luck and having a decent no claims bonus and no points etc . . .

I am currently 26, 2 years NCD, 6 points on license and pay £750 with BELL INSURANCE. (LCR)
It's pretty difficult getting a good quote until you are over 25 and have at least 4-5 years NCD.
I was getting quoted between £1000-£3500 for fully comp until I STUMBLED across BELL.
At the end of the day, it is a group 16/17 insurance car, so insurance will always be a little pricey!

Take care,
Cheers,

i believe the 'R' is actually group 18! Do a search because there have been a couple of threads very recently where lots of people have quoted their insurance costs (myself included).

On my LC I paid £840 Fully Comp with 1yr NCB on my 24th Birthday. Asda (who I was with when I had the 1.4Clio RT) quoted me £1350!!! Sod that!

Admiral was the best but only on the pay up front deal, not the monthly. Im with Direct Line now... as I found, Direct Line under writes Tesco, so are the same but cheaper than Tesco. :)

I think I'm right in saying that unless your insurace company are going to pull out the ECU and check, then they arnt going to know whether you had it remapped or not. From experience, I dont think they would go into that much detail. It's the visible mods which they'll prob pick up on. I think Im right?! :)

Is it worth running the risk?!

Could end up facing criminal charges, not being covered by your insurance policy and struggling to get insurance in the future.

For the few extra quid (assuming you are with a mod friendly insurer - which you should be if you are modifying) it is worth it just for the peace of mind!

The LCR is goup 17 - which is i think the best bracket to be in before you reach 18, because 18-20 is that much more money and if you are under 25 v difficult to get insured. :)

don't think that over 25 it gets cheaper.. i heard this when was under 25 so thought yippee it should get cheaper.... IT DOESN'T..
we all have to pay for people who insist on driving around with no insurance.
33, over 10 years ncb and paying £275 fully comp....cheap i hear you say....nop i only paid about £250 last year. it goes up every year and i'm getting older.

however when i was under 25 many moons ago, i used hyperformance.
or do search on net for younger drivers ;)

I first insured my cupra r at 24 with direct line. I only had just over a month left on the policy when I got the car but it worked out at just over £1k a year with 2yrs no claims and no mods.

I was 25 when my renew letter came through so at 25 with 3yrs ncb they wanted £700, again with no mods. I then gave greenlight a call and got a quote at £550 including a remap, dump valve and drive other cars cover :)

Mine isn't an R, would love one though. I'll be paying the grand total of £460 fully comp to direct line, with 4 years ncb.

I live in really quiet postcode which helps, if I move 5 miles away it goes up to either 1200 or 1600 depending if i go west or east. think i'll stay where i am!

your so right.
anyone thinking at 25 it gets cheaper, forget it.
'Age Bands' basically no longer exist. Your age IS a factor, but there are no magic bands that lead to a world of cheap insurance.

I'm not expecting my insurance to drop drastically in price when I turn 25 as I think mine is pretty cheap as it is (£615 23, 6yrs driving, 3yrs NCB). The big difference for me is that if you are under 25 direct line wont cover you for ANY modifications. I realise I could have switched to green light or adrian flux etc. but that would have meant a £150 hike in the price of my premium.

I work in insurance fraud and I have to say that this is an exceptionally stupid idea. Why wouldnt they check if they can avoid paying £100,000 + in legal fees if you kill somebody?

It is far easier that people realise to check an ECU and for certain types of cars they will be checked as standard after a crash.

Like everything, there are ways around it but obviously I wont go into them.

When you say insurance doesnt get cheaper with age....I think your wrong, mine nearly halved this year. All I got was another years NCB and I turned 21 and it made about a £700 difference, and last year that was the cheapest quote I could find!
