All great fun these Derv V's Petrol threads. I love my diesel as at the moment it suites me, I drive 500 miles every week, and at present just cant afford to run a Turbo Petrol.

Getting 45 MPG average with a lead foot, only £100 a year car tax, and only £350 a year Insurance, I love my little diesel, it does what it says on the tin, has never let me down, and so far in my 10 years of driving is the only car I have kept over a year, and have every intention of keeping it for a few more years.

0-60's who cares, I can never get any traction in 1st anyway, Mid-range 40-100 on A & M roads is where I need it most to overtake, and with 320lbft it has plenty of go.

When I drive less miles, and have more Money I will without doubt go back to Petrol, You just cant beat the rev happy nature and flexibility of a great petrol engine, but for the time being Diesel all the way.

No mix up, Went for the most aggresive custom remap as poss. 190.7 BHP and 320 LBFT, all much higher up the rev range. Off course I have had the clutch uprated with a Helix Allards TDI clutch.

But hey this is not a debate on my torque output, I was simply giving my two pennies worth on Petrol Vs Diesel ;)

Just wanted to say that I had a Ibiza 1.8t cupra revo,d mint little car, then I bought a brand new Leon 150 tdi had it remapped at Jabba really good remap changed the car really fast but poor brakes and bad handling. So swapped that for a Platinum Lcr so I can answer the question Derv vs Petrol.
Well Derv pulled your arms off and very cheap to run but you can't sound cool in a Derv and bad brakes and handling.
Now Lcr standard does not feel as fast but it is faster, mint brakes and alot better handling and I sound cool again.

So to sum it up if you want to go fast and cheap in a straight line Derv it is, if you want fun in twisty corners and mint brakes and to sound cool and you are not a scrooge petrol is the winner.
Also I am 30 not 60 so the Derv will wait a few more years yet.

Anybody else want to comment..............

Yes, derves can sound cool, i have a clip of mine at home somewhere, and it sounds awsome when under load, yeah ok so not very nice when its idleing but how often does that happen. And the the turbo chatter off my hybrid turbo it sounds absolutely fantastic ;)

Agree with all that has been written. Ive been down the pod a few times against a Stage 2 Revo'd Mk4, and yes it did win, from 70 onwards he really gained. Granted its not a stage one, but it did prove a point, we werent too far off each other.

If I could afford to run it i'd have a petrol, but as it stands Im happy in my derv...

Till big turbo's come calling ;)


...And yes they can sound nice! As Spaniels says. I love the sound of mine >2000rpm

they are about the same stage one just a basic remap but the stage two on the 20vt just gives it the edge about 5 a second over the 1/4 mile

Sweet comments :p. Lol at 30 not 60... :p.

I'm at Uni and have just bought my 3rd car since I started driving. first was a petrol, 2nd and this are Dervs. The reason - I drive appromxiately 700 miles a week (living at home and work too) so a Derv is better in my instance as I only fill up three times every two weeks, not four to five times! :D

As has been said, dependent on personal circumstances depends what car you'll have and what fuel it is!!

And my Derv is standard but it sure as hell goes well around corners and the brakes/handling are great! Handling not as good as my 106 Quiksilver but that was lowered and stuck like glue!!

i think what lets the tdi's down on the 1/4 mile is the need for changeing gear about once more than the 20vt and the change being lower down around the 50 mph mark if they had even longer gers i think they would be the same

seems my pd130 has a better time than alot of mk3 cupra's

In fact, has anyone ran a btter 1/4mile time for a remapped 130?
