Red Line

I've read on or two posts on here where people have talked about red lining. I always thought this was no so good for the engine and have never taken the revs that high.

Is my thinking right or is this OK to do (once the engine is well warmed up). Also if you take it up to the red line does it just cut out or what?

Forgive my ignorance but I am not very mechanically minded!

there is a rev limiter, but don't where it cuts in as i've never taken the revs far into the red! it would be interesting to now where it is even if power peaks just below 6k.

Technically it does not make sense to go to the red line as power starts to tail off beforehand. BUT, after trying different techniques at Santa Pod, and I know it will vary by driver, I put in better times with higher revs than the optimum point. This could just be my remap though as peak power is over 6200rpm.

(black line, red was my standard plot)

the leon cupra revs to 7000 as per checking via vagcom but power dwindles by 6200 so there isnt much point in holding on, even in the lower gears as you are missing the peak torque of the turbo.

Did some videos for another thread today, this still looks like the limiter is about 7200rpm
