No it doesn't tick. Sometimes the heater motor comes on and nothing comes out of the vents. Then I press the button that puts the air fully on the windscreen and it starts behaving properly and the air flows again.
Does your blower work?
The blower can stick on its shaft restricting any operation of the heating and cooling to virtually nothing.
Easy to replace (remove insulation panel in passenger footwell and twist motor anti-clockwise I think - no tools required) but not cheap to buy.

yes the blower does work. Occasionally the blower will sound like it is going but nothing comes out of the vents. I then press a few buttons and if frees itself and if works again.
