Mine were the same, I asked my dealer and said its surly not right and he said that is was caused by the car been stood for a while and rusting up. They said its not covered by warenty (brakes are only covered for 6K or 6 months) but they said had i of bought the car of them they would of replaced them out of there own pocket (Bay Horse Motors).

So I would get back to where you bought it and see what they say

instead of trying new pads I think it needs new pads and discs, to do the job right, if the same thing happens again it would suggest that you are a rather light braker :)

I know you guys chatted about this last month, but I had they same problem at 18K miles, I whinged about to the Stealer who told me to naff-off, so I let seat helpline have some to and they told me to naff off.

Finally I chatted it through with the Dealer principle who after receiving a copy of my e-mail to What-Car magazine agreed to pay half of the rear disks, pads and labour, so that it only cost me about 100 pounds.

This is a quality issue, I was fobbed off with all the excuses untill I showed that I was gonna let the world know that SEAT disks are shite, they were then very nice to me. Give it a try and let me know how you get on.

beleive me I agued for hours.

The dealer has now advised that my fronts are 70% done as well. I've never had so much fun with disks in my life. I would understand if I was giving it loads everywhere, but most of my mileage is motorway/dual carriage way.

It would be good to know exactly how many people this has happened to because I don't think the quality of the disks is acceptable for them to be getting knacked at 18K (rear) and 23K (front)

Fronts being about 2/3rds worn at 23k doesn't seem too unreasonable to me.

Wear rates don't depend entirely on what type of roads you drive on, but mostly down to your driving style.
On motorway/DC driving it all comes down to how well you use forward observation, anticipation, and whether you leave a nice long gap in front of you. Next time you drive, see if you always look far ahead and have enough of a gap to reduce speed just by lifting off when you've seen traffic ahead starting to slow, or whether you use the brakes when you see the brakelights on the car in front... If it's the latter you'll wear pads/discs out much more quickly as you're repeatedly slowing from high speeds.

IIRC I think my front pads & discs got changed at the 50k service.
The rears got pretty pad earlier - not due to wear, but rust on the outer edge.

Yeah I know what your saying, I've been driving for years (as im over 30).

My main point is that in all of the GTI's, XR, RS, 16V cars I have had in the past the disks have lasted for at least 3 sets of pads.

Thats why I'm not chuffed. The dealer did say that the disks were a very soft compound to allow them to operate better, but I took that as he will say anything to get rid of someone who is not happy.

I have just noticed this very problem on my discs -they're rusted fronts too. Cars only done 8K and just a year old. Warranty or not this level of quality is not right, they shouldn't be in this state so soon. I'm going to ask the dealer tomorrow I think and see what they say (along with a few rattles that never seem to come up when they test drive the car) perhaps the latter is part of owning a Seat;)

my rear disks looked a bit like that too, not as bad tho 7.5k miles

drove to the end of my street every morning for a week with the handbrake on 3 clicks (300 yards) and they have no rust on them now, they do have groves in them tho but I think I've saved them

anyone that has a newish bizza with rear disks that does low mileage should give the handbrake a bit of exercise to keep the rust at bay

it did this with mine driving with the handbreak on for a little bit and the clunking has stopped and seems ok now time will tell though

Problem with disks like this is that they will fail the MOT as mine has just done so. I had new disks and pads fitted, last week, and since then used the car daily for some mixed driving - there is appears to be rust again forming on the contact surface of the disk that isn't being cleared !

Perhaps the brakes don't work on the rear, perhaps the whole car is designed not to work correctly? I am getting that impression, clunks from the steering, rear suspension, rattly interior.

I too had this rear disc wear saga at 20k. I also had the stealers glib,"must have been standing etc ,etc" and since I use the car every day, that is a load of proverbial arse! The voice at the Seat customer services escaped strangulation due to the diameter of the GPO cable! So I paid up to the stealer.
Reading the threads I note there has been no direct answer for this problem. Since the easing of my purse strings, I have become a bit of a Golf rear disc spotter:rolleyes: and the wear patterns I`ve seen are what I recognise as normal on a rear disc braked car. Since the Ibiza digs into several VAG part bins, is the pressure arriving at the rear end sufficient, under NORMAL braking, to force the pads effectively onto the discs thus ensuring no build up of rust? So, is the master cylinder pressure split between front/ rear correct? Are the pads too hard? Any ideas chaps? The brakes on my wifes Octavia are the dogs!
Incidently, I also had both front springs break at 27k, two weeks apart, but Seat only change individual springs and not pairs!

I had a front spring break as well at around 16 - 17K - only the one was replaced!

i had a similar problem with my fabia vrs (same brakes i`d assume) and it turned out to be partially seized calipers. they were stripped and cleaned by the stealers and have been fine since. anyone with the prob had they`re calipers checked too? oh and i was charged for them fixing the calipers too.

yeah, the stealer said it wasn`t an actual fault with the brakes so i had to pay for an hours labour to have em sorted. cost me £32 so not a huge outlay but still should have been covered as i`d only done about 5k when it was done.

not a real problem a seized caliper erm lol not to bad then for an hours labour but as you siad still should have been covered i think. but good that its sorted on yours how long ago was it done?
