Mentioned it the other day about my rear discs appearing to be not wearing correctly so took some photos today after I had been out and done some town driving. What are peoples thoughts?

I've just had a look at my rear discs and they are nothing like yours. The corrosion is confined to the outer 7-8mm of the disc and the rest is bright and shiny.

With yours it almost looks as if the pads are in upside down (I know they can't be) as you would expect the pads to make contact towards the outer edges of the discs for more leverage.

I assume you do give it some really hard braking now and again to bed the pads in and stop them glazing over.

how old are the pads?

they can be tapered to aid bedding in.

i had some pads on my old car that were very tapered, took a fair while to get them fully bedded.
the rears dont get used that much so if they are new that could be a contributory factor.

I presume the pads are the ones from new, car has 10k on. Been doing a few spots of heavy braking to try and clear it but not having any luck. I can drive around Manchester city centre and it still has all the rust. When you run your finge rover the disc it feels grooved on both sides.

yeah sod the mpg :p
...and the annoying beep.

Before anyone asks, I don't drive round with my handbrake on, except up and down the drive after washing the car to try and dry the discs a bit ;) and even then it's only on very lightly.

I'm hoping they will be replaced under warranty, well, I expect them to be as its obviously not right.

nope, mine has 17k on them, and they were shot.

Had them changed today, my discs and pads cost £30, thanks to my mate, did'nt fancy SEATs quote of £230

Go out and give it an italian test drive (rag the tits off it) with as much sideways action and trail braking as possible - forces the ESP to work, which grabs at the rear brakes harder than if you were to simply brake in a straight line :D .

Ah, bugger.

I wonder if driving as fast as possible in reverse and then smashing the brakes would do any better at removing this cursed corrosion?

You can tell mine's a company car can't you? ;)

It is very unlikely that they will replace pads under warrenty but you might get discs. I new a car that had once had the friction material seperate from the back plate but still wasnt covered by warrenty and it was 6 months old. This is because they class it as a wear and tear item!
