hi all, tried searching but no luck.

I've a cupra tdi, I've just upgraded to 312mm disks on the front and I'm now looking to go from 233mm to 256mm on rear.

Question is, is it a case like the front of just swapping the carriers, or do you need the caliper aswell?

thanks

John.

Hi, i dont think you need to change the rears if you are putting 312mm on the front as you will then have the same brake set-up as the petrol Cupra.

some petrol cupras have 256 on the back, I don't think many have 233mm on the back. She's revo'd, so Im alot faster than a standard LC, and around the same pace as a LCR.

cheers, I know of 256mm calipers for sale. Just wondered if I needed the caliper and carrier, or just get away with buying the carrier, like the front.

No, you need the calipers too cos the 256mm discs are vented (ie. thicker)

LCR or vRS calipers and carriers are a straight swap (done the vRS ones on the Toledo)

...or TT/S3 quattro setup fits with 4mm washers between the carriers and hub

and potentially 'bad' as the brake bias may not be right, causing the rears to lock, the ABS to kick in & not much slowing down

or it might be ok, but why risk it? as stated - they do little effort anyway

90%

Are your sources on that reliable ?? :p

Seem to have some conflicting advice here - one says the back brakes do nothing ... the other states that you might lock up the rears and go out in a spectacular ball of flames

The actual difference in braking force between 233 & 256 is based on that 1cm of extra distance on the caliper

...but being vented, they're far less susceptable to fade and warping ;)

From solid to vented is one huge difference. Once done I'll have the same setup as an s3 or tt 225 etc. Brake bias will not be an issue. I'm quite heavy on the brakes and don't want to go down the expensive dig brake converstion route.

233mm rear disks are way to small for the job.

People don't seem to realise the importance of upgrading the rear too. Done right, brake bias is fine (I'm going down a tried and tested route), and they help a hell of alot : 1) overall braking time 2) help reduce front brake wear.

Thanks for your info guys.
