its the sensor thats a common fault - they usually replace the whole tank.
Some of us cannot fill up the coolant as its already close to its recommended max!

Coolant Level - no max mark?

I've got the 'low coolant' warning as per the spate of threads in the last month.

When I look at the level on the expansion tank it was below the min level by a little. But there is no max indicator on my tank. Just a MIN arrow inside a box of xxxxxxx's.

The book shows the tank having a large MAX indicator on the top half of the tank, above the rim round the middle. All I have is the G12 symbol on the top half of the tank.

So where should the max line be.

A - Somewhere above the middle rim of the tank
B - The rim round the middle
C - The top line of the box with the MIN / down arrow in it.

In the short term i've added 1/2 a pint of water, as the twat in Halfords told my wife 'purple G12' would definatley be Halfords blue antifreeze.

The faults happens when cold or cars on a hill, resistance across the 2 probs increase, triggering the fault, cold has a huge effect on voltages too, especially those 12v or less, somtimes a top up with plain water will do, anything upto a pint is o.k and wont dilute your antifrreeze etc, if you cannot be arsed to go to dealers, clean the probes, and this will clear it 50% of time
