Saturday night I started my Leon Cupra R and it gave me an audible warning as well as flashing the red light on the temperature guage. I looked in the manual to see that it recommends you put some more coolant in, But it was 2 in the morning and I was parked in town, so it's not something that was easy to do.
I switched the engine off and on again and luckily the warning light didn't come on again, so I thought it was just a gremlin.
However, I started my car this morning for work and the audible warning came on again along with the light. This time I opened up the bonnet only to find that my coolant level is WELL above the minimum level indicator on the bottle. The only coolant I had to hand was a 11 year old bottle that looked a bit dodgy (Does it go off? It's just water and anti-freeze, right?) so I didn't stick any in and so I just took another car to work (not wanting to be late)
So what could be the problem? Both times it was fairly damp outside and on the way back on Saturday night my petrol light came on. Could either of these affect the warning? I wasn't sure if it was safe to drive or not.
