Hi there! Sorry to bring the old thread up again! Tried disconnection my MAF this morning, det temp was 0,5 celsius, so it should have given a log. But it didnt. Will try the same thing tomorrow!

Is it safe to give the car some beans with maf plug disconnected? To test the performance??

Short blast should be fine, just don't do it for long periods as you'll be either over or under fueling the engine as the ECU won't know how much fuel to add based on the air coming in so will give a "best-guess" - I gave mine a 10min ride with MAF disconnected to check if it was at fault and doesn't seem to have done any harm :)

The IAT (Intake Air Temp)causes the fault which is measured by the air mass meter, so yes, when unplugged it won't read the temp

The MAF is fine though!

Hmm.... So if I go out tomorrow morning when it's cold, and disconnect the MAF again, without the pressure drop error, it MUST be a faulty IAT map? Am I wrong??

Well I had the source of mine found when Jake was remapping my car.

Map sensor pipe :(

MapSensor.jpg

I must have been driving round with this problem since I got the car and I never noticed.
It's been damaged by the fan as it came off or was pushed over on the bracket. I'm just glad it didn't damage the fan blades as new unit is £400+. A new pipe with sensor cost £168+ vat from Seat  [:@].
I think Jakes firm used a smoke detection machine on the turbo to source the leak. He might provide more info.

Anyway after the new pipe I have CC stage 2 and it flies.
Hope others can find their source.

PS anyone wan't to buy a useless pipe and I'll throw in a free map sensor :)

Its a very common fault on the 1.8T, get it all the time on standard cars so its not always map related.

Problem is its a pretty generic code with many possible causes. Here are a few.

Boost leak
Dirty/Faulty throttle body
Faulty IAT sensor
Faulty DV

But also check the vacuum pipes under the inlet manifold, quite often one splits length ways, its quite tricky to see clearly, look just to the right of the dipstick.

Ok, a test again this morning, maf plug off and NO "pressure drop errors", only maf errors!(Expected).

Temperature was 2 celcius. I would assume that the "pressure drop" would come, even though the maf plus is disconnected? So obvious the leak wouldnt dissapear from disconnecting the maf ...

relate to a split pipe and maf,

today i spent most of the morning sorting it as i replaced the maf and still problems, well under the manifold i found a small split in a pipe that comes off the bottom of the manifold,
replaced it and driven for the rest of the day and no codes, wwwooooo hhhoooo, it runs perfect,

may help.
