Hi all,
I know there as been quite a few threads allready on this subject.
7months ago i brought another Toledo this time a 2001 Tdi. Cut a long storey Was getting power loss at 3,00rpm the turbo was cutting out .
Stopped the engine fine back to normal till you reached 3,00rpm again.
Took it to a local turbo specialists, Tested =turbo faliure.
Exchange the turbo, Great. now 3 three months down the line i'ts happening again . Took it back they checked turbo, vanes, hose's etc is ok. There basicly stumped :headhurt:, Test drive it could not get it to cut out . After lurking on this site i ask them to check the MAF the said it can't be that as it would cause the power loss al the time.
But they changed it any way at no cost to me. Gave the car back to me to give it a run round for a week. The wifey runs it all week me at the weekends.
Nothing till today gave it some stick and it cut out at 3,00rpm again.
Switched off , Turned on again =back to normal.
So it searched around under the lid and noticed the sound proofing to be lose looks like it has been chaffing one of the hose's and a hole in the top. The one that goes to i think the edg valve . Would this make a difference ,Have now changed it . By the way were is the maf situated ,Going the put some dieletric grease on it.

Editing your spelling
jeffurs - the chaffing of the hose leading to the EGR (i think you mean) would unlikely cause what you are suffering from, from my experience with a faulty egr control valve it would lead to a stutter of sorts. Alas changing it is a good move.

For your problem i would get vag com on it and see what fault code gets logged when it goes into limp mode. 99% it will be boost related afterwhich it HAS to be either hoses or sticky vanes.....
