Not got the MAF yet however the car is really playing up now, idle revs all over the place and the car is stalling. Should have the MAF by Tuesday. Will feed back

Well I installed the new MAF this weekend, but I'm not convinced it's fixed the problem. It seems to run better, but not perfect. There are still moments when the car hesitates. The thing I don't understand is that the car doesn't do it all the time. Sometimes I get full power, and other times it doesn't run smooth and stutters. With the replacement MAF it doesn't seem to do it AS much, but I'm sure there's still something wrong.

Interesting Andrew as thats the exact same problem as myself. Getting me worried about replacing my MAF but hey, everything leads to the MAF. Have you inspected your DV. Culd be your N75 (as per previous suggestions). What did VAG COM come up with?

Yes I read through that thread, but I was sure it was a faulty MAF because when I disconnected it, the problem went away.
I already replaced the N75 valve and the coolant temp sensor.
It could be that I have the wrong MAF type, but this part was previously installed on a LC, so I'm pretty sure it should be ok on mine.
I haven't inspected the DV so I'll do that next, but it's a Forge 007p and should be more reliable than the standard one.
Anyway I'm planning to get vag-com connected up and see if that reveals anything. I don't have it myself, but a forum member has very kindly offered to help me out with this.

Well I've had the new MAF on for a few days, and so far it's been idling smoothly. However there are still problems. Last night I was on a dual carriageway and put my foot down in 4th gear. The car started to accelerate, but then it was literally like someone had applied the brake, there was so much power loss. I couldn't even pull away from a Punto sporting
It did pick up after a few seconds, but acceleration was still quite erratic. Do you think this points to a problem with the DV? I plan on checking this, but I've noticed it's been very quiet for some time.

From what ive read up on, n75 valve, air filter, sensors or loose pipes. Worse case, its your turbo. Im sure someone else could pick up on this as i dont have much experience there.

On my end, got the MAF today. The car refused to turn over yesterday. Will replace the MAF tomorrow and see what happens. If the MAF completely goes, will the car refuse to start up?

VAGCOM showed 'ground error'. Replaced battery and that sorted that issue.

replaced the air filter
replaced the maf

car is more stable now. it idles bewwen 650 and 700 rpm. lower than before however its smoother. Will access over the next couple of days and feedback

Hi All

Heres an update

Driven the car a few times since the maf replacement. The problem hasnt gone i am afraid. My heart just sunk.

New coils, maf, battery, filters.

Ive got a forge dv. Might be that next.

Check out the vag com results, cable was supplied by previous owner, i just downloaded a shareware license to see if it was of any use:

The 17705 code tells me you have a leak somewhere, not neccessarly at the DV.

You need to do some logging with vagcom.

1st off i would check your boost, make sure actual is close to requested.
2nd..I'd check the values coming from your maf and compare them to values measured by other owners
3rd..Check the CF values to check for timing pull

Performance wise, you may be going into limp mode if the car feels flat, and its not accelerating properly.

Stuttering on start up, with revs all over the place...The only time i have experienced this is when a boost pipe has been loose. Check your turbo and IC pipes.

thanks mitcy, was thinking about disconnecting a couple of pipes, however not too sure what they are called:

The pipe connected to the MAF
The pipes connected to the DV

Can i assume one of these is the boost pipe?

I plan to disconnected the pipes and reconnect them.

problem now seems sorted, after 3 mafs, iginition coils, etc etc, it was the temp sender!

fingers crossed, over the comming week, the problem wont resurface. Need to clear out the faults via vag com and see what happens.
