i had the same symptoms, thought is was the MAF. no fault code on vagcom. turned out to be the dredded clutch slip. new clutch kit in no problems since.

think it sounds like n75 valve which controls boost, or the d.v, or the maf. need to do some logs and try. i'd recommend a vag com on it, check mass flow rates . failing that have a look at the d.v, check for leaks in that area, and finally n75 valve as this mediates the boost the turbo gives. hope it helps. good luck.

Unplug the MAF then take it for adrive, if it stops then you know its the maf at fault

I've had excactly the same on my tdi.
Thought it was MAF, exchanged.Seemed ok.Started doing it again.Usually at about 3-3.5rpm, the needle drops or seems to stop climbing, then kicks back in again!
think its the big bad C:censored:TCH

mine does this sometimes. Foot hard down and it seems like nothing then bang, loads of boost. Sometime if i have my foot down then release the throttle then foot hard down again, its like you've hit a wall for a second then loads of boost again. Could this be the tip collapsing. I've got an oem TIP. Its not the MAF as i changed that 2 months ago. sometimes also a bit hesitant in third or forth with foot down, boosting then drop in boost then more boost then bit less boost, its only slight but i'm wondering if i have a slight boost leak. Nothing showing in VAG COM though
