Potential Buyer - Question on Alloys

Hi,
I am potentially looking at upgrading my Cupra 300 to a Cupra Ateca (2019/2020 model)

One thing I am concerned about is the alloy wheels. In the 4 years of owning my Cupra 300, I have had 3 buckled wheels, which are an absolute nightmare to repair and are expensive to replace. They are made of cheese and buckle very easily from pot holes.

Am I likely to have the same issue with the Ateca? Has anyone else needed to replace/repair their alloys several times before? I am hoping it will absorb the bumps a bit more seeing as the chassis won't be as low down.

Spending several hundreds on buckled wheels isn't an experience I'd like to go through again!

Any insight would be appreciated.

Cheers.

I’m running the 20” Copper alloys with 35 profile tyres, no issues with the rims. But then I’ve never buckled a rim on any car. I guess if I left it in Cupra mode and thrashed over potholed roads it’d be a different story. The comfort setting is quite compliant.

Roads here are terrible. Having to dodge potholes adds another layer to the concentration of driving. Could you not get the council to repair the alloys as it’s their inadequate road that caused the damage? I have a Leon Cupra 280 with diamond cut alloys, which are prone to kerbing. Luckily I’ve not had any buckle on me (touch wood).

Not sure about the buckling issue with the Ateca. It’s a heavier car so maybe the same, if not worse? Depends on the alloys, pothole depth, speed etc.

Would another hatch or estate be a sportier, more engaging drive than an SUV?

You need a decent tyre profile to avoid damage. Anything lower than a 40 profile and you're struggling.

I live in Dumfries & Galloway which statistically is the worst area of the UK for potholes.

So far this year alone i've had 1 buckled and 1 cracked rim.

This one was a beauty....

Thanks all.

Yes I live in the country and have my suspension set to comfort 99% of the time. The council don't want to know, despite raising a complaint. I live right within the HS2 heartland, so the lorries are absolutely destroying the B Roads.

What profile does the Ateca have with the 19s? My Leon sits on 235/35/19 tyres currently.

I would love an Ateca, but at the same time, I can't be dealing with several buckles over my ownership!

Thanks.

Mustn't be too far from me than (Wendover). If the pothole has been reported then the council should react - but if it hasn't it's a case of "we didn't know, how couild we possibly fix it". 245/40/19 is the standard for Cupra Ateca, mine's a Limted Edition run-out model so has 245/35/20/
