Quick question for you guys (and girls where applicable) , In regards to the satnav.

When you type in a postcode, what happens?

Do you;

A - Get a message saying no Street data available

B - Get a list of house numbers to pick from

For me it used to be B however since a replacement unit I now get A.

Mostly no street data message, which i dont mind as most of the time the numbers are never right anyway. I have on a limited occasion been asked for a house number, but it all depends on where you are going with your car. I, assuming like most people, will be using it to find shops or petrol stations, not individual houses, but if youre a estate agent for instance, you'd be expecting to visit more places with numbers

from what i've used of it so far it hasnt had any door numbers. as Graham, I don't really mind/care unless the road is crazy long then it might cause an issue, but usually a postcode would be only a certain number of houses in a long street anyway so......
also, google maps if you get completely lost.

if it was working fine before your unit was replaced, don't suppose you know what mapdata you had before and what you have now do you? v4/v5/v6 ?

I'm on V4 maps and I get the "No Street data available"

Currently waiting for V6 to be installed - will let you know if it changes.

The only satnav I've ever used that took me to an exact house number was a garmin, even my tomtom only used to take me close to the number not like the garmin which was spot-on.

I find the my in-built satnav takes me close to the number much like the tomtom did.

Do you get the option of choosing the number?

In the garmin yes, as I said before it took me right to the front door.

With the tomtom, I had been on several forums and "updated" the operating software etc, so that may have been reason why it only used to take me close.

I remember with the tomtom after updating it, and setting my home address, when I used to turn into the Close where I live, it used to say " You have reached your destination" - close but not exact.

No street data available message if you input postcode. However..... if you go the long winded way, by street etc,you can put a house number in, and it does work, even finds my mates house that most sat navs say doesn't exist :D
