Hi All,

just been browsing the web (as u do a sunny sunday afternoon ) came across a port an polished head.

so my question is are they a good upgrade when fitted along with cams? or are they not worth the expense @ £675 exc the cams its quite a lot of expense.

or are they an upgrade only to be consider if a bigger turbo is on the cards?

any info would be appericated.

I think ported and polished heads only make a difference on NA engines. Im sure it would make a bit of differences but prob not worth that much. Be better spending it on a high flow exhaust manifold or somewhere else.

What mods do you have? Have you uprated internals if thinking going big turbo?

thanks for the fast reply

well atm i have 3" turbo back, open cone filter, tx fmic, 007 valve, 4bar, revo 1 map, (awaiting revo 2).

no i'm not forged yet, its just such an expense. just forging is over £1300. thats with out the turbo, manifold.

im not to clued up on the engines, i have the BAM so does it require rods an pistons ?

do u know any good sites to look at for these kinda parts.

Would consider rods if you're going stage 2. Just peace of mind. People have bent rods getting close to the 300 mark, and less, but depends on how you drive!

Obviously not worth spending money on a relentless manifold if you're planning on changing your turbo, but these manifolds have been giving people on here a lot of improvements.

INA do the rods for your engine and are sponsors on here. Have a look in the sponsor section

nice one cheers,

well it was RR at 279.9 bhp and 301ft lb. and i like to use the power every now an then :)

so looking at rods for safe running of stage 2

and rods a pistons if the turbo is being changed.

a few of my friends ave with varoius motors have changed turbo to the gt28 range, would this be a suitable turbo upgrade?

It certainly is sunny in Harlow! I'm down the road in North Weald.
As for the question, I would have this way down the list if you've got a turbocharged engine. There are plenty of areas of inefficiency or weakness I'd sort before the head and cams. On a n/a engine where you have less areas to make such gains, heads and cams can be worthwhile. With a boosted engine, I'd spend it on other things and has been mentioned, rods are a good way of future proofing the engine, but this would probably go beyond the £675 you've mentioned to get them and fit them. Why not speak to a firm like Essex Turbos in Witham or AMD for ideas around the next turbo? I'm fairly new to turbo'd cars so would go to them for advice.

As already said above...P & P heads are not worth the money on turbo cars..... unless you start changing to monster turbo's and pushing 400bhp upwards.

Your better off saving the £675 and keep saving for longer and get the rods changed - the standard pistons are ok for most as they are forged already. You just need some 144x20mm con rods.

Then you can really push the K04 turbo or go big turbo in the future.

Good luck with the future modding :)

Just get a large port head and have it refurbed. You should be able to get rods fitted for around £1000. WMI, a larger FMIC and a 3" TIP should be high on your list as well.
