The radio reception in the cupra is toilet at best! v.poor on FM and trying to listen to MW is a joke! interference when indicating, reception cutting out when going under bridges. low sound quality and genral massive interference.

done a search and come up with nothing other than it might be the supressor thats gone. 1st of all i'd like to know what a surpressor is and what it looks like and where abouts it is as its easy to remove the radio to access this.

secondly does anyone else have any other suggestions, and 'fit a new aftermarket stereo' isnt an answer i'm looking for as i'd like to keep it std.

please help as it is annoying the hell outta me! (i've tried a different std arial that 100% works and its still the same and had the stereo out to check the ariel connection).

cheers
Rich

CDs are the future ;)

seriously tho, not a clue. you checked the aireal is fitted properly at the back of the HU?

I'd be inclined to say it may be the supressor too.

What I'd do is take the car to Halfords, get them to check it. I used to work for them and they never had a problem doing this in the past.

Be a free way to get a professional opinion on what's up.

Hello all,

Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

My MW reception on my original Seat stereo wasn't brilliant - have since replaced the head unit and installed a signal booster but I get loads of interference on my MW reception after the engine has been running for a bit.

I've tried replacing the aerial because it looked to be broken, but that's not done any good. I keep reading about 'noise suppressors', but I only get the problem with MW and it's only once the car has been running. . . CD / USB / Aux all play fine. Can anyone help?

My reception was pants so when it was in getting something else fixed I got an auto sparkie to have a look. He changed the ariel and put a new connector to the head unit possibly a new wire (not sure) and it works fine now. Pitty is cost me £86 quid but hey ho, done now and the reception is much better.

I've thought about doing that - and will probably have to. But if I can avoid spending that sort of money, I'd be well happy!

I'm having the same problem!
I have an 07 Ibiza DAB and expected that the DAB reception may be a bit hit-and-miss, but the FM reception is terrible too!

It's been in twice to get sorted but no luck. The aerial has been changed and a booster fitted. I can now get Radio 5 on MW but not still Radio 1 on FM - how crazy is that!

Any ideas?!
Getting really annoyed with it now!!!!!

Got mine sorted out now. I had the aerial and co-ax replaced and it's working fine. I haven't heard anything about DAB problems. I don't know where you've taken it, but in my experience it's best to take it to a specialist rather than main dealer. The problem may be very easy to put right.

Good luck with it.

Thanks for the info. Problem is that it's still under warranty so I'm taking it to the main dealer.

They changed the aerial 2 days ago but pretty sure they didn't change the co-ax cable. I need to ask them if they remembered to power the aerial i guess.

Although it isn't the standard Ibiza head unit, it is the factory fit for the DAB SE so surely they should be able to get it to work!

Could take it to a specialist but as it's practically brand new I am reluctant to pay when the main dealer should sort it for nothing!
