Poor MPG????

Man..this is getting crazy... I am also getting poor MPG on the my 1.8T Cupra (53).

I tried cleaning the MAF sensor with no result.. I have no fitted a new MAF sensor but still if I press my foot to the floor i get a shocking 5MPG in 1,2,3:cry: and in 4,5,6 I will get about 13MPG.

I know driving flat out like this is not the norm for most but sometimes you just need to do it...lol:whistle:

Can somebody tell me if this is normal consuption....

The average trip MPG on the M8 during morning rush hour is about 27- 30MPG. (stop start traffic with a 5mile blast). approx. 18miles

Please can someone advise me on this... many thanks guys.

I am also considering buying a new N75 valve and and forge 007 DV to give a quicker performance although don't want to get even less MPG

I have been advised that cleaning the AIT Sensor could help and I this is located in the intake manifold?? can some body send me a pic showing exactly where this is? as I'm still getting used to where things are in this engine..

im sure the mpg trip computers are crap. They dont calculate it properly at all as you will find out on other threads. My trip says 25 mpg sometimes 19 mpg but when actually calculating it im getting 31.4 around the town and 36.8 on motorways (readings from last month)

Im going to make a guess that the trip computer is linked to the fuel guage, if that fluctuates wildly or innacurately it might give you rubbish figures.

If the figures are right I would check the air filter, make sure it is clean and not blocked which believe me can cause the car to drink like gazza in the dentists chair. Also check air pipes, hoses etc for any air leaks.

i,d ingnore those trip computers, when you shut off throttle it registers a 0mpg and knocks it off the counter. lol when in effect your not using hardley any fuel.

Low mpg = bad driving

I'm getting up to 42 MPG and my mate is getting 440 miles out of his 1.8 20vT
Be very very gentle with the throttle and don't be in a hurry and you will easily get 35 MPG

Trip computer is accurate in my mota

my 03 LCR drinks fuel. My journey to work is 10mins, stop start stop start, then when i get a little bit of an open road i drive hard. My MPG is laughable. Yes i could drive conservatively but thats boring and I didnt buy an LCR to drive like a sunday driver!

I also have a mountain bike which has been put to good use on these sunny days!

well its keeps ya fit doesnt it!

These engines seem to vary a lot. A mate had an S3 (210) and even with the 4wd system he used to get mid 30s and he did not drive it carefully. Similar driving for me would just see 30. Difference on the motorway was massive even when we went in convoy!

That's because on a modern engine when you shut off the throttle they don't use any fuel - the computer won't give the engine fuel if it doesn't need it.

Really that is amazing with the GT28, I thought as it was a bigger turbo it would eat fuel like no tomorrow.

I suppose it all depends on the conditions (motorway or city driving).

I agree BP ultimate is the best for economy that I have had experienced.

The worst was definatly Shell V Power...nasty stuff..lol

The benifit of the BT is that it doesn't start to spool till about 3K RPM, so at 60 MPH in 6th the turbo aint spinning and the fuel economy is great.
This 600 miles was done on A class roads in north Scotland
