Hi,

I have a 1999 T Reg 2.0L GTI (Logbook)/Cupra Sport(I Think) all standard, but I'm getting some pre-ignition/pinking at 2500 rpm under load. Was wondering if there are any usual reasons with this car; It had only started happening recently, so I don't think its a timing problem - Fuel consuptions 30MPG+.

Could it be a vaccum pipe gone or something like that? Blocked inectors?? what should i check for? Do these engines have knock sensors??

Hi, thanks for your replies.

How easy is it on these cars to do the tappets, i suspect you have to take all the intake mainfold off as it goes over the cylinder head - this looks like a right pain! I'm not 100% its tappets but its certainly something i hadn;t had thought of!

Has anyone used STPs fuel cleaner to get rid of carbon build up etc? I have been told it could be due to deposits in cylinder or injector blockages.

Is the only way to retard the ignition a bit to remap the ECU and therefore would i need SEAT to do this for me? I can see a hefty bill if so!
