Picking up new Toledo tomorrow!!

Luckily my new abode, and my soon to be second abode are both on regular bus routes, so I am planning on driving less anyway. I really had no idea a car could be so unenjoyable, and I've had some really rubbish long termers before, AX14D, Punto 1.2, Proton diesel to name a few.

Anyway, others find it a perfectly acceptable transport. And it was very cheap at 12k shiny and new.

Well I really like my 1.0 tsi and don’t mind changing gears in it . A lot of people seem to have a real downer on the car including current owners. I agree it needs some cog swapping but if your a driver not a get you to A to B person who cares? Once it’s spooled up it’s ok! And I actually like the 3 cylinder noise like half a 911 engine! ; )
Beginning to think maybe people should have spend their 12 k on a second hand Leon (14 or 15 plate )
Maybe the 1.2 4 banger has more torque at low revs but lower spec, no warranty ( Seat one) I’d choose a tsi no issues. Try my remapped one... may change your mind

wow! Unenjoyable? Clearly Seat went backwards when they built the new one after your old one! I’m actually surprised given the slating your giving it you actually bought it ! You should have bought an old 1.2 instead !

And that's exactly what I have been advising fellow 1.2 driver @johhny cabbage to do.

I loved the 1.2 TSI, the best 4 cylinder I've ever owned, smooth, quiet, quick (certainly had lots more than the quoted 105bhp too), but I had the chance to swap it (at near 4 years old) for a brand new one for only £6k cash. In retrospect, a rubbish decision.

The AX did near 30000 miles commuting every year for 6 years, and though slow was a clearly more enjoyable drive than what I have now.

What difference did the remap make to your 1.0 TSI ? I would be very interested to hear what the improvements were as I am still debating whether to give my daugther our 1.2 toledo and buy a 1.0 tsi for the wife- despite what camel advised me about buying another 1.2 tsi toledo.
The problem I have got is finding one (another 1.2) thats decent.
I have certainly found over the last few weeks that these once overlooked cars appear to be attracting more buyers as the ones I have been chasing up have been sold quickly if they are the right money.

They are beginning finally to dry up off the market
I missed a very low mileage excellence 1.0 TSI that was snapped up as I was hesitating what to do and I had to travel miles to test drive a few 1.0 tsi seats.
I tried the ibiza (which wasnt the mpi model camel I checked back) It was a 5 speed 1.0 tsi and at £15500 it drove crap ! I tried a toledo 1.0 and it was much better, I tried another toledo 1.0 in the midlands and that was very sprightly albeit as Camel warned me it was missing the low down torque that the 1.2 has available.
I am in a tight situation where my daughter needs a car urgently- she has been without one since her old toldeo was stolen off the drive on Xmas eve (hooked keys through letterbox) the car boot was loaded with xmas presents hidden from the grand children so much for goodwill to all men eh !

My daughter now has gone back to work as a nurse and with two young children and working between two hospitals her life is a nightmare without her car and now she,s handed back the courtesey car -plus the insurance company have been dragging their feet paying out on her written off car.
I have been mithered to death by my wife & Daughter so I may well buy this 1.0tsi for the wife after all, before that gets sold .
She is only tootling to work in it, the gym, shopping and the weekly trip to Liverpool from N Wales to see the grandchildren.
The spec is huge and thers nothing anything like it pricewise offering that spec.
Maybe a remap could rekindle your relationship with the car Camel ??

Why pay thousands for another car if a few hundred quid remap might sort out the power delivery of the engine (just a thought )
I read an account of a remap on a TSI and the lower torque wasnt changed much but I know a custom mapper from the midlands who will write a programme for your car to suit your expectations.
As I said previously , hes done two for me in the past and the results were excellent.
I will ring him this morning and let you know what he says as Im interested myself .

Lol, had a 200 mile test drive in a new Leon 1.2 back in 2015, and that was very good chassis wise, but I had enough serious dislikes to be disinclined to chop the 1.2 Toledo in for it. It seemed like a lot of extra money for little gain. Oh how little I knew

What I have found of late, with many low range rentals passing through my hands, is that I hate the current trend for tiny turbo engines. The 1.2 was obviously better than OK (barring reliability), but all the 1.0 or smaller turbos I've tried have left me cold; all have poor power delivery and rubbish economy in the real world.

The difference in the remap is great ! I liked the car before but now REALLY like it... torque is improved but tbh it was ok before if your not afraid of a few revs. It’s certainly better On fuel than my altea FR!
I’ve just bought ( As I buy accident damaged cars albeit cat N stuff so bolt on stuff ) 2017 Seat Toledo 1.2 tsi stylance .
Looks same but lower spec and worth £7k fixed. Go figure .
Feel free to take a road Trip and try my 140 Toledo

Anyway each to their own . Maybe go buy an old clunker again . Honestly never seen such a derogatory slating of any car in the Seat brand and I’ve been on here for over ten years!

Broken turbo actuator at 15k. Bugger. I was pissed off when the previous 1.2 did it at 26k. VW reliability eh? That's the last new car I have off them.

Sorry to hear about that - is this a common fault then Camel ? what were the symptoms ?

I've not heard of many 1.0 doing this but the chain drive 1.2 was fairly notorious for turbo trouble as well as the widespread chain issues.

The 1.0 symptoms are EPC and engine management lights,with lack of power and a P003A code.

The 1.2 limp mode was with a P334B code.

Just like the 1.2, the activator change has not cured it. New turbo going in this afternoon.

On other VAG fan sites, many believe a flattish or old battery can cause these symptoms, and a new battery fixes it for about £140.

I dread to imagine the total bill doing it the dealer way if it wasn't under guarantee

Car drives fine but leaks oil. Back it goes.

It was fixed quickly enough but lockdown meant I didn't drive it for over 2 weeks.

It runs ok now, just like before, (so still with the asthmatic power delivery and crappy handling),
but at least her indoors can get to the supermarket now (and she doesn't care how it drives)

If it's a keeper, then maybe just swallow the cost of a decent remap, (with a low-end torque bias if you prefer) and fit those improved 'sport' springs and a strut brace?
Should cure all irritating issues and make it easier to enjoy the other positive things these cars have to offer compared to similarly-priced rivals.
Will probably even save you money in the long term, as you'd be be less likely to feel the need to change it for something newer, but less tailored to your taste.

I don't think the missus needs a map and sport suspension for trips to the supermarkets.

I should have kept the older Ibiza, but her ladyship (responsible for me buying the 1.0 Toledo in the first place) wouldn't let me sell this one and keep the older car (that we both preferred driving as it happens)

Now she moans on and on that I sold her Ibiza! but that was her idea?

I see - I'd just assumed that the Toledo was your main daily driver rather than someone else's.

My wife's cars I choose for her, the current Citroen C3 as a surprise Christmas pressie in 2018.
None of her cars were 'good enough' for me as an only car, but were bought primarily with her
differing priorities in mind. Maybe these days I'd be accused of being a sexist whotsit, but she
claims to be happy enough and I must have saved her a small fortune.

As the nearest thing to a 'car expert' in our extended family, I've built-up a solid track record over
35 years, (mostly for fussy-as-hell dear Father) - so my car buying advice cannot be questioned!
(until the day I get one wrong of course and nobody trusts me again)
