Yeah i liked the idea of it there, but in all honesty it was a bodge and never sat right or looked right so i decided to bin it.

Fitted the OEM TT shifter, and for 20 quid its not a bad mod. Not a massive reduction in throw buts its helped. 3rd gear is now much closer so i dont think i'll be missing it any time soon.

At some point i will look to buy a proper short shift to reduce throw and side to side further.

Not got any pics installed but heres some of the item itself.

Finally after about 30k of being remapped the turbo has started dying, smoking and not making as much boost whilst whining like a pig. So i've bought a new one. :D

I'll take some more pics of the engine to show how much as been binned soon.

After fitting the turbo a few things come to light, the fact that the exhaust and the TIP were badly fitted now means i have to replace the inlet pipe with a new one. This time i'll be getting Forge one for the car, fits better and works just as well, as for the exhaust a lot of exhaust paste was used when i refitted the downpipe to the cat back so hopefully it might hold it, but i'll soon see. Also i need to get a 22mm blanking plug for the TIP and a new silicone joiner from the turbo to the fmic pipework as the turbo now has different size outlet tubing, I need to also work out how i'm gonna sort out the kink in the charge pipe to DV... pic...

Next up will be usual stuff like tyres, plugs and cambelt and water pump change along with sorting minor things out like my busted window regulator and cd changer.

Got all parts this week for cambelt and water pump change and fitted my new window regulator and fuel cap motor. Cars off into the garage tomorrow to have the cambelt/water pump done along with... brake fluid change, oil and filter change, headlight alignment and fuel filter change.

So heres some pics of the parts, not very exciting but you know me, i take photos of everything.

Sony MP3 disc changer, which i had in the last car to replace the broken OEM one, which seems to work when it wants to. So this will be fitted with a Connects2 lead which allows me to control the changer using my standard cd controls. :D

DSC00327.jpg

Got on order some small things, such as an A8 sunglasses holder to replace the handle on the pillar above the door and a 12v cigaretter lighter for the boot, which some cupras have as standard.

Well, my bad luck continues with the stupid spanish piece of crap. After having the car probably run ok for a few days it started smoking again, first up i thought the new turbo was toast, so i whipped the inlet off to have a feel of the shaft and it was spot on and no oil in any of the pipework. Uh oh.

Compression test next. Took the plugs out and they were :censored:, proper toast and covered in oil, not lookin good. Took out all plugs and coil packs, disconnected the injectors and pumbed in the gauge, cranked it over 6 times on each cylinder, 175, 175, 180, 180. Spot on. Which was a relief in one way, but not in another, at least my pistons and rings were ok. Put another set if plugs in and fired it up, loads of smoke. Took the plugs out again and they were covered in oil. So i'm 99% sure the valve stem oil seals are :censored:. Great.

While i'm waiting for the engine to be worked on i managed to get a set of Wilwood brakes off a mk2 Golf. Theyre 310mm Wilwood Superlite 4 pots with alloy bells and Wilwood discs. They needed new discs and brakes lines so they were ordered from the Rally Design. Theyre not fitted yet as i'm still waiting on my braided hoses. Should work better than the single pot 280mm setup on the car currently.

Also got fed up of nearly dying every time i jack the car up on a scissors jack so i went out and bought a clarke racing jack, with a 79mm saddle height it flies under my car and i can even get it under the rear beam to jack the entire back of the car up off the floor, it wasnt cheap tho, but the amoung of times i'll use it it'll soon pay for itself. :D

Next up is to fit the brakes with the braided hoses and some decent 5.1 then the car goes in to have the engine ripped apart.

DSC00352.jpg

As far as i know 6th gear bushing is toast, and the diff is fine. So i might just keep the gearset as a back up and rebuild it at a later date. The plan will be to remove my box and fit the diff the same time as fitting my clutch and flywheel.

Next up will be as and when stuff gets delivered, such as rods, clutch, flywheel etc...

Just waiting on my flywheel and rods from the US and i can start gettin the car back on the road.

My ABF 228mm flywheel turned up today. Got it for a bargain price of 42 quid delivered, . I'll be dropping it down to Martin aka Hotgolf on ClubGti who and lighten it, taking about a 3rd of the weight off as well as having it balanced with my clutch. He's also the guy whos doing the work on my diff and box, top fella fair play. :D

Just a small update, but basically my engine was due to be rebuilt the week i was away, but unfortunately there was a problem. The wrist/gudgeon pins had worn and could be re-used. Not i a problem i thought, i'll re-order some from Audi/VW. How wrong was i. Basically you cant order them individually, you have to buy them as part of a piston/ring/lock set. Great as i didnt really want to replace the pistons.

On their way from the states again are forged JE pistons, standard bore and slightly lower compression pistons, complete with rings, locks and the nightmare that are the pins.

Pics when i get the parts.

Also ordered Ferrodo DS2500 pads for my wilwoods and brackets for my ARB's from Bill @ Badger 5. :D

After joining this wonderful website, lol, and posting a Newbie thread someone sent me a message asking me if i wanted to buy some bits from him.

So my first mods were had, a Green Dynatwist air filter and a Seat/MOMO strut brace, both for 90 quid. Bargain, and he lived in Bridgend which is about 30 mins away.

(yes i know the brakets aint orientated the right way, but they were a nightmare to do and it was dark!)

Have to drop the oil this week and get the cambelt looked at as i'm gettin a camshaft position sensor error, which normally means incorrect installation of a cambelt. But with th brakes and rear ARB the car is handling and stopping so much better its unreal. I've also ditched the rear interior, spare, wheel, parcel shelf and the scissors jack etc..

Going to fit the rear discs at some point as well depending on the weather, so in theory all going well the car should be near enough ready for the track day, minus the main thing i would have liked, which would be the diff, flywheel and clutch.
