Phantom touch screen when cold

Anyone else experienced the touch screen randomly thinking things are being pressed when you start the car from cold? I've got a 2013 FR with the 8 button unit, and it's getting so annoying that I'm now turning the system off until the cabin temperature gets up. Sick of it turning to Punjabi Radio! :)

First noticed it a few weeks back, when we couldn't input an address into satnav. It kept thinking we were pressing different buttons. But now in this cold snap, it's just going batshit crazy, thinking the screen is being randomly pressed.

Once the cabin heaters kick in, it behaves normally.

Weird!

Mine does something similar, when the weather is cold the screen looks really dark and I can see it visibly getting lighter as the cabin warms up.

The touch part seems to work fine though, but I really only use it to put the work address in to Waze and then the steering wheel for the radio controls

It's common problem. It's the screen cover/membrane that shrinks slightly when cold and and presses against the resistive sensor panel and causes all sorts of mayhem! I've had this issue in my previous Leons.

I managed to get a replacement via warranty (see 2nd line of report) but the funny thing is that the courtesy car which was a 17 plate FR) with new 8" screen did the same, albeit not as bad!

SEAT are very aware about the issue but from what I've heard they are very reluctant to replace units due to the price (appx £800)

If only they had glass covers like the rest of the VAG range!

Thanks guys. Guess I'll have to get my mum to knit a warming screen cover for those cold nights! :-D

Don't want to tempt fate but I fitted a screen protector from Amazon and it hasn't done it since! Granted it's only been 3 weeks but living in Scotland it has been frosty about 3 times. Hopefully it stays this way and it will be the best £15 I've spent on the car.

Was it a generic screen protector for a tablet or specific, any links mate? Mine doesn't have the issue mentioned, apart from occasionally changing station and fm channel but it will be a case of i turn the radio on and its already on the station.. Screen protector sounds good to save my screen from my missus's fingers!! No care in the world with women & cars..

Mine does it all the time when cold. Does my head right in....

All im saying is.... the new mk4 leon is going touch screen everything, can you imagine trying to defrost that in the morning! Be blasting A/C in your face on cold setting, randomly putting your heated seat on. I can see it being a massive massive problem in years to come. Bloody idiots

Can you keep us updated on this please mate? My 65 plate FR doesn't react to any touch screen for about the first ten minutes after start-up, then kicks into life and just flies through the menu's and stations. Its incredibly annoying!

If this is a fix I'll personally come and buy you a beer, i feel like putting a hammer through it some mornings!

I did punch gently few times my fr screen...ended seat replaced under warranty and after 6months started again in cold.
Most annoying they blame software and keep telling no update available but nothing to do with software .

Still no issues?
