Pedel box

Hi mate you can take the pedel box out with out removing the steering wheel.
first job is to remove your drivers seat, nut and bolt at front of seat near floor then slide seat all the way back.
next seperate the brake pedal from the servo link you will have to pull the pedal
hard to words yourself to brake the clip that holds it when you seperate the pedal from the servo link rod. you will need a new clip for it you can get them from seat or Vw the part no is somewhere on this site.

Next job is to undo all the 13mm bolts that hold the pedel box on two near the top of the column then remove the rest that are on the bulk head, remove 2 bolts holding brake servo then remove steering rack bolts.
basically any 13mm bolt that you can see on the bulkhead remove them i think there are about 8 bolts in total:blink:

then take the two clips that hold the tube that goes through all the pedels
pull out the tube and remove
remove brake pedal and clutch pedal
remove braket that that links the pedal box to the steering column
buy know the pedal box should be loose pull it up towards the steering wheel so it goes over the threads that are holding it in place
then you can grab the steering column at its base and pull it towards your self and then you will have to fart around swearng your head off trying to twist the pedal box around the steering column untill its free[:@][:@] its a lot easier when the bracket is snapped off
Don't worry though its not the worst job in the world its just a pain in the backside.
I hade my cupra pedal box snap at 50000m and my dads polo snapped two weeks ago,
just get some one to seam weld the bracket on and weld an extra support in

The worst job i found was not the pedal box but the clutch spring that is a right pain in the ass:censored::censored::censored::censored:
Good luck mate at least you've got some nice weather at the moment to work on it any probs let us know:D

i didnt fancy trying to get those shear bolts off so stuck it in the garage, but i did have a chew on with the clip that goes into the back of the brake pedal, there are 2 clips and i got the wrong one first so make sure you get the right one :)

Hi mate
right next thing to do is unclip the 2 white clips that hold the fuse box in place this will give you the room you will have to push and pull the fuse box out of the way to get good access to the right side clip and to push the shaft out, if i remember push it towards the fuse box end there is just enough room to get it out use, something like a screw driver to push it through. As far as removing all 13mm nuts i used deep 13mm socket with along extension on.
The bolt that is hard to get is the one behind the steering column, i used a small 1/4 inch ratchet and socket and a 13mm spanner. Hope this helps any brobs let us know:)

Do'nt forget to pull the pedal off the servo link you will have to give it a ahard pull and it will seperate from the link. have you taken the support bracket off yet?
It is bolted with one nut just to the right of the steering column base (where the 2 nuts that hold the steering column to the steering rack are) The bracket goes from the base of the pedal box up to support the brake pedal etc. Once removed this will alow you to move the pedal box around as long as you have removed all the nuts.
Once its all loose to get the brake pedal of as i said in the prevous post you will have to push the shaft through. Once you've done that the brake pedal will be held on by a long plastic tube if i remember right it is also held on by the steering column buy like a u shapped hook, you will have to prize it out of the hook , pritty easy and then you pedal assembly should be loose and easy to remove.
One problem you will find is when you have removed the brake pedal and getting ready to move the pedal box, i found that on the seat you had to push the servo link as far as it will go so you get enough space to get out of the big hole in the pedal box.
On the polo there was not enough space so i had to remove the master cylinder and servo which made the job a whole lot easier it depends if you are comfotable bleeding brakes etc but you brobably will not have to do this. Good luck mate:D

Hi mate good to hear you are getting the next job for you mate is to make yourself a cuppa:D If you pull the steering column about half way down the shaft does it move? Have you got ajustable ie the handle that moves up and down to lock your steering height make sure that is loose ie so you can move your steering wheel height up and down.:)

by the way thanks for all your help so far

If you have no movement in the steering column that means youve left a nut still done up on the steering column, There are 6 nuts to remove and 2 bolts the 2 bolts are at the top of the pedal box just under the steering wheel and the 6 nuts are on the bottom of the pedal box you will have to pull the pedal box towards the steering wheel to get the pedal box away from the threads of the nuts that were holding it in place.
Do'nt worry mate Once you've done the job once you will find it piss easy to do it a second time just take your time and relax if you get stuck take a break.
You will think logically when the pisses you off it all starts to fall into place when you are calm:):)
