Hi Guys

Gutted to say this is my second Seat Ibiza and the second time the turbo has popped, that little VNT on the 110 lastest nearly 120k. Unfortunately on the 05 FR its only lasted 69k. :wtf:

Can anyone tell me the model of turbo I require? I see some are Garret and some KKK. Does that vairy from make and model, or can my car have either?

Last time I checked you couldn't get them reconditioned, is that still the case? I need to find one quick and cheap if anyone can help.

Cheers in advance

Gutted George...

Thanks for the replies, does anyone know the exact model of the KKK unit I need? Seat want £1115 +vat for one so i'll be looking for a second hand or recon unit.

Do you know if the Fabia VRS unit is the same?

I've looked in the accessories forsale section and theres not a lot in there. Are you saying people advertise turbo units in the Tdi section mate?

Cheers again

Firstly- Thats a hell of a lot of money for a turbo!

As far as I can remember, the fabia has a garret turbo on it - not a KKK

No, all the stuff for sale will be in the for sale section - but there is a lot of info on various turbos which may be of help. Ill have a look and see if I can find somthing which may be of use to you, im sure there was a thread about all of the different turbos and which engines they fit.

The fabia vRS uses the Garrett or KKK, it is just luck of the draw really.
Try and get a Garrett as they are known to be more reliable than the KKK expecially if you decide to remap in the future.

So are the Garrett and KKK's interchangable? My car is currently remapped as well. I've found a company in Birmingham who will recon my unit for £315. I've not checked whats on my car yet, but if its a KKK and they are interchangeable I maybe better off looking for a second hand Garrett?

Thanks again.

If your car is mapped you're better off with a garrett as it's designed to cope with higher boost pressure I think.

Just another thought, if gave someone the chasis number would they be able to tell me what turbo I have on my car?

Are they interchangeable though mate? Will either fit my manifold? Will my remap work with either turbo?

What are you doing to the poor turbo's to damage them? Are you running without an air filter or what?

In what way have the turbos failed?

Hi Nath

The old car was a 110tdi with a Vnt 15 on it. Apparently they weren't very strong, I was also running a speedbuster tuning box, which probably caused the problem. The engine had done alot of miles too, 130+.

This one is a little more annoying, a fully warrented superchips remap, green filter and cupra intake are the only mods. I guess remapping is what I am doing to my turbos. The car is serviced every 10k by Seat and in the summer months when it tends to use a bit more oil I have dropped the oil between services. The car has been maintained by the book. It doesn't get and pedal until its well up to running temperature and in the same token it doesn't get any for the last 2 or 3 miles of driving before its turned off. I avereage 52mpg to every tank as well. In fact the car only gets used between 2k and 3.5k at the absolute max, theres no need to rev it any higher.

I'm really dissapointed with the failure tbh I've tried to ensure the car stay reliable because its my work horse. I guess regardless of what people say there are definately risks with remaps.

Loss of power and thick white smoke under mild accerelation was the fault this time. The last rubo pump black stuff straight out the back. I've got oil dripping from the turbo this time as well.

Just when I thought my reliability issues had gone too.

my car has done alot of milles 143000 milles and been mapped 34000 milles ago and mine been fine you must be doing something wrong

do you let the turbo cool down at all after a good ragging

and my power 188.7bhp holds all the way to 4.5 rpm and i do drive it like i stoll it most times

As stated in the previous post I let the car warm up and cool down properly, so I doubt its something I am doing wrong.

So does anyone know if both turbos use the same manifold and down pipe?

It sounds like the oil seals have gone in your turbo and engine oil is getting into the turbine housing.

Theres not a lot you can do to cause this fault other than over filling the oil level................

As posted previously - i have a Garrett Gt1749VA for sale off a Mk4 Golf PD130.

Both KKK and Garrett Turbos fit straight on. :) I have had a KKK and Garrett GT1749VA fitted to my car so can definitely tell you that. :)

the turbo is integrated into the manifold, it's one piece rather than a separate manifold and turbo. i've been told that the garrett is just as built down to a budget and no better than the kkk
