thats the man - very quick - even he got beat by local hill specialist though Steve Bailey

pair of them were a couple seconds clear of me (not too bad over 60 secs run) which I'm not too sad about given their experience and how fast the cars were

yes thanks I had a great weekend.

£160 for 3 days (includes insurance). Compares to £75 for a trailer. Ease of use is well worth it IMO and no need for a towcar anymore. So easy to load and manoever. And 70+ on the motorway......

Well final results are now in - Class 3b champion again narrowly beating the 205M16 of Keith Webster. 11th overall with 493.09 points.

This compares with 7th overall last year on 497.14 points. I have made significant increases in personal best times at all circuits visited this year but because Elises have been allowed in with normal 3b saloon cars in certain events, and have beaten me sometimes by quite a margin, my overall points tally has suffered greatly. They should not be in the same class as saloons. Hopefully this will be rectified next year or otherwise I will have to pick events where they are in a different class rather than events i would like to go to.

A good year. Now to winter modifications.

Are currently thinking about suspension - and costs thereof.

£3K buys top of the line proflex, custom build.
£1500 might buy revalved koni or billy coilovers - looking into this now. Spax's that I have are ok but are not rebuildable and I want to slightly change spring rates.
£0 buys what I have now :)

Alternative plan is try and reduce body roll through stealth and cunning - modified uprights a possibility as is alternative ARB setup - both requiring fabrication and time. We have now gone past off the shelf bits.

Whole car is getting flat floored with rear diffuser and side skirts - plans already drawn up thanks to Aerodynamics book (Simon Mcbeath)

Service everything. New CVs. New strut top bearings. New rear tyres (fronts can do another year).

More as I think about it - would really like a dog box but need to move house first and then reassess finances.

always wondered if removing the 'scoop' behind the rear bumper would be useful at speed - so some thin plating ahead of it should fix that

stealth & cunning sounds interesting though, like cloak & daggers but more thought out

update - (think I have) found the source of the clonk I have been getting from passenger floor area - was under it last night, havin a bud, and there is an unhealthy amount of play in the diff bearings, and a tiny bit of leaking oil from the seals. Can get it to clonk by hand so will be well esay to do with engine power.

So it looks like the box has to come out......like I didn't want a winter with it in place.......Saul, I will be in touch LOL. Suppose I am lucky to see the year out without a failure.

Question now is, as its off and is going to need a partial rebuild, do I finally bite the bullet and stick a dog gear set in it......6 gears in the space of 4 I have now......yummy yummy yummy, 130mph top speed, £2.4K for the gearset though. Hmm.

This will be a SQS Racing gearset, the Group A Golf homologated ratios with a 4.2FD. More news later.

lol, RobT the 'box muncher, we should be able to do it blindfolded by now!

you dont drive it on the road at all now, you are purely racing it and are obviously chasing better times, dog set i would say is a must!

yes - aintree is only allowed to run a small number of events each year, the golfers who play inside the track dont seem to like fast cars - shame as its a lot of fun/committed and very fast

aintree is only one place we go to sprinting, the full calendar is still being finalised hence my suprise at your statement

others include loton park, anglesey, curborough, scammonden dam, elvington, cadwell, thoresby, three sisters, etc

thinking of coming and having a go? bring the scirocco, you could run that in the same class as me.......

That sounds good actually, I do enjoy sprinting....but I am not sure if I am going to have enough budget to build the Scirocco. Its such a shame because I have all the parts I need to complete it, its justs the odds and ends that I can't afford to buy along side the Leon project....and the time of cause.

I have just put a load of the parts up for sale on VWMotorsport actually so I think it is now mission aborted for the rocco unless we can get money from somewhere to run the Leon.

When are the other dates published...I would love to do Anglesey and Cadwell in the standard class in my Scirocco road car provided the 2E2 Pierburg works for long enough to do a run :help:

lower bearing as per-VWMotorsport spec in kitcar manuals

basically I have lowered the outer end of the wishbone about an inch to take it back to the right geometry after lowering the car - wishbone now points downhill from car to wheel (as it should) rather than uphill which throws the camber curve out with roll - now there should be much less gain in positive camber with roll and better use of the tyre.

My slicks fold the outer edge of the tyre over with hard cornering leading to an odd ring of wear around the tyre circumference. This is the sign that the camber is going positive in roll.

This was not easily achieved as the VR6 upright has a lower balljoint attachment point that is not vertical. Hence the pin goes out towards the disk as it is lowered. This has necessitated changing the offset of the brakes. Also, the lower balljoint housing was made longer than stock to accomodate this move outboard (so the wishbone is now effectively longer). This whole setup will not work for you unless you have plenty of arch clearance to go slightly outboard.

Have also altered the steering arm attachment point to use a rod end / pin arrangement. This will allow easy adjustment of the steering arm position to change the bumpsteer characteristics.
