If i can buy a 02a box from a passat, i can just take the final drive from it right?

Try to find one in good condition.... then you gotta pay for someone to strip that box to get the final drive and then strip yours to fit the final drive.

I just brought it new to save the problems of finding a gearbox and then once it's stripped finding out it's f*cked.

Right... gearbox came off yesterday, in between the rain.

Flywheel have gone off to be lighten and balanced, gearbox is going this evening to be rebuilt and have the final drive fitted.

Ordered a load of new parts today from VW, bolts, seals, etc.... for the driveshafts, flywheel and inner cv boots to! Might as well once it's all off!!

When I get the invoice back will post up all the part numbers and that! Not much information on here about doing this final drive.

Driveshaft Seals x2 8D0407309
Flywheel Bolts x6 N90206103
Compression Plate Bolts x6 N10101001
CV Boot 1K0498201 (Drivers & Passenger sides are different parts)

Also need 2.2 litres of Gearbox Oil
And if you don't go for new CV Boots then you will need to get some CV Grease

And 8 bolts are needed to fit the final drive onto the diff.... the bloke that is buliding the g'box have supplied me with them, think they about £10 a bolt

Well had the flywheel back today and well please with it, getting my throttle body machined tomorrow as there's a taper inside so getting that removed to.... worth a try I think :)

Gearbox will now be ready for Monday as 3rd gear broke the blokes press in work lmao

Well my gearbox finally went in today and it's much better now.... so nice being able to come out of corners actually within the power range now, instead of just below it!

The lighten flywheel is hard to notice the difference along with the gearbox but it's a bit of a pain trying to keep it below 1500rpm when trying to pull off and when changing gear normally I find myself reving when bring the clutch back up..... Guess it's just time to get the use of it all!

But well worth it I think! Specially as it's one of the cheapest mods you can do for performance (after the usual mods).

Oh and the machined throttle body.....

Theres's a taper on the intake pipe side that was removed, shown below (the standard one is at the bottom and new at the top)

On the intake manifold side the tb was made more round......

Don't really know if it will make any differance but no harm in having a go i guess..... does give more of a roar now mind.

Oh and recommend changing the clutch once it's off because after a day of driving around the thrust bearing is now rattling it's tits off and the car is misfiring because we noticed the rope that was holding the gearbox had bent the neck of the pulg on one of the sparks leads

Hoped it would be fine but it didn't last one day

Best thing was I got a spare clutch here but didn't fit it because the clutch that was already in the car was less than a year old.
