Panel Filters Oiling - Too much hassle!!

Just cleaned and re-oilled my K&N Panel filter only to find I must have over oilled it as mpg is now way down overnight.

Seems to me if you under oil it then you risk particles getting into the engine, yet over oil it and fuel economy packs its bags and heads off on its hols never to return.

So how to get it just right?

I am off to Halfords tomorrow to get an old-fashioned paper one.

All that hassle and K&N say a panel filter will add about 1bhp, ***ee! (sarcastic)

Ive just put a standard one back in, managed to get to halfords before it shut, and the difference was unbelievable, ive suddenly got instant response.

Its actually better than the filter before I took it out and mucked up the oiling.

Im not convinced by the panel filter, obviously the induction cones are superb but panels not convinced.

Might try the paper towel thing though, thanks for that.
