Painting Bumper Trim: Help & Advice

Right, once you have applied 2 coats of primer and left to dry (wash car whilst waiting or summat), it's time to smooth the bumper again.

Take a piece of fine 1200 grit paper, and lightly rub over the trim. Don't rub too hard, just enough to make it feel a little smoother again.

Then spray with you colour paint. Nice smooth strokes, and check for slight imperfections (I know there are some in the pic, i've touched them up since)

Now just let it dry. Wax/Polish/Clay your car whilst waiting :D

right i may aswell write the hints on spraying on here.....

get a bucket of warm water, not too hot but does need to be a good temp.

shake the spray paint can for about 4 minutes (hard work i know) make sure you rspin it a couple of times to get around the inside propperly with the ball bearing.

once you have shaken it for around 4 min, drop it in to the bucket of warm water and leave for about 2 - 3 minutes. remove the can from the water and make sure it feels nioce and warm to touch. then start spraying!

apparently the heat from the water helps the paint molecules to seperate better and gives you a better finish.. also do this with the laquer and you should (if applied evenly with no runs) should produce a paint finish equal to if not better than the quality of the cars standard paint.

one of my mates used this method and got a near mirror finish on his paint.

hope it goes well mate, looks like from the pics you either did not fully sand down some of the rough bits when primering. good job though

it's smooth. Those are really bad/deep scratched from kerbing, leaving certain car parks etc before adding LCR Splitter.

Looks blacker and shiney that the rest of my car

It's dry to the touch now. Cleaned LCR Splitter whilst waiting. Gonna leave to dry a little longer, then attach back to bumper laters.
