Took the car for a good run yesterday and the car sat at bang on 90 on the temp gauge all the way, then when i got caught in some traffic (stop start for about 30 mins) the car temperature went up to off the scale and the light was on and getting that annoying ding sound!

Is this just a turbo characterstic (ie doesnt like not being used!) or is the car fooked? Hasnt happened since it was just when i was stuck in traffic as I said! The moment I moved off the temperature began to drop again instantly.

All my levels are ok so im abit worried!

Hi mate. I had the same problem myself a while back.

Do you know whether the fan is working? If not then check the fuse on top of the battery under the bonnet. Also its possible your water temperature sensor is on its way out. Vag-Com will confirm this.

I would agree with the above. If the car overheats while at a standstill i would say check the fuses and fuse holder on top of the battery. The fuse holders are renowned for corrosion. £30 fix.

Thanks lads! No rust been treted pretty well by the looks of it but one lovely cooked fuse lol problem solved!

Yes but the fuse has prob cooked because the fuse holder has internal corrosion forcing the spark to jump to the fuse itself. Do yourself a big favour and save yourself a headache and get yourself a new fuse holder from the Seat dealer. I promise you its the best move i learnt the hardway myself.;)

Im thinkin if i undo the bar which straps the lives str8 to the battery then i can lift the holder sufficiently to be able to see if there is any corrosion underneath? Just dont wana bugger the electrics up

The fuse/holder on top of the battery make the circuit for the aircon if the circuit is not complete it all says its working but the a/c fan does not work and does not cool. Its the same fans that when driving hard/in a traffic jam come in to cool the engine. If they dont the car overheats.

The fuse holder is a really common fault. Like mine it will prob fail the 2nd time when you think its sorted and least want it to, on the way to the airport going on holiday. I should have just changed the fuse holder it was a 1/2 job and very easy and the problem has never come back.

Im having the coolant sensor and fuse holder changed, but they also reckon there is summit up with my AC, but im thinkin that when they fix the other 2 bits then it should be ok?
