Overheating Issues

HELP....

Well last night half way along my journey i was presented with a lovely little beep along with my water temp shooting up to 130. I managed to slow down and come off the motorway and it cooled down to 90. This allowed me to limp home.

I went out to have a look today, topped up the lost water and took it out a gentle drive... Same again so limped home. One thing i noticed is that the fan didn't seem to kick in? I have looked at the fuses above the battery cover and also in the fuse box but nothing was blown, unless the is a hidden one i don't know about.

Been searching on here and a few folk have had the same problem and it comes down to the water pump. Anyone point me in the direction of parts i would need if this is the case. Even better is there is anything else i should check?

Car will now not move until its fixed and i will be on peddle power till them.

VAG-COM probably wouldn't show anything other than temp of coolent. Normally bottom left of the engine as you stand in front of it

should i try the thermostat first? anyone got any pics of where its located?

Looks like its at the bottom of the block on the LHS...
Engine codes - AJQ,APX,APP / AUQ,ARY,BAM, / AUM
(Taken from an Audi TT 1.8T engine diagram, couldn't find the 1.8T listed in the Ibiza section of Vagcat for some strange reason.)

I would phone a dealer with your chassis number to get the correct parts as the parts numbers listed on Vagcat where for an Audi TT and may not be the right ones for what your looking for... Could always try Sere Motors on here too.

Number 3 is the water pump and Number 6 is the thermostat.

All Fixed,

It turns out it was the water pump and thanks to Ross (Becks other half) it was all sorted in a few hours, a roll with egg and bacon and many coffee's.

For anyone that has overheating issues and hasn't changed the water pump already i highly recommend changing it for a metal one. As you can see from the pics bellow, when we removed the pump the impeller had came off the cog as the plastic gripping it had worn out and eventually snapped.
