car was overheating so did some reaserch and found the fuse box to be a common problem, my fans werent working and the fuses were coroded so thought that was the problem. Picked up new part today just fitted it and went for a 5 min drive and it is still over heating  back into garage and left it running to look under bonnet and none of the fans were going even though it was at 120* :(

anyhelp as i have changed the fuse box and new fuses but still no luck

if the fans aint working check voltage to the fans. If voltage is there and there not spinning then theres a good chance there knacker. Check the resistance across the fans.

You said you had ur AC on. make sure you swicth it off and just put the temp all the way too "high" and blowing full power out of the windows to lower ur car temp down.

But sorry man i dont know what the problem would be :(

right been out and checked all conections, tightened them all up, turned the fans on full with engine running.
both fans came on for 5 to 10 seconds then went off again.
car was still at 100-120* though:confused:

Be careful and keep an eye on the water level.....run it out and you could start warping things!

When you say new part....did you buy a whole new fuse holder? TBH it sounds like your fans are knackered.

When you switch the AC onthe fan should come on at a low level to blow air across the AC radiator. Maybe check the connections for corrosion if you said they worked for 10secs and then went off!

man it's the fuses on the battery.

trust me, here in italy now it's hot as hell so the fans are constantly working. the cables for the fans run into the fuseholder over the battery but they carry a lot of amperes so they heat a lot, the plastic of the fuseholdes melts and there's a bad connection on the fuses [this is why it came on for 5-10 secs then again it went off],,,

the AC goes shot too,,, it it the first fuse on the right [at least on my tdi]. try to extract it and it will take a lot of force cos of the melted plastic. once it's out clean the contacts on it cos there will be some plastic on them, put it in and job is done.

when it is AC + fans it's the fuses, trust me. generally the AC starts not working before the fans do so it can be a good signal.

don't let the car with the engine on with the how coolant!!!

you sure the new fusebox/fuses did not melt too? if the current [amperage] is too high it will melt all the fuseboxes you can change anyway,,,
take the fuses out and check if there's melted plastic on the contacts, if so remove it and try again [check if the a/c works as soon as you can to see if it's related].

I am quite sure it's the fusebox melting cos of high currents passing thru it.
fans and a/c together mean only one thing in my experience of mk3 beezas,,,

more than that, it could be that the fusebox melted, no matter if new since the fans kicked in [while with the old fusebox they didn't work] and after a while they went off [just the time to melt the box,,,]

I got the same problem sometimes but I never changed the fusebox, just cleaned the fuses contacts of melted plastic,,,

dont no how much they are charging, will find out later if they have time to sort it today, hopefully FOC as am still owed ££ from warranty when a new drive shaft on the corsa broke and had to pay labour until they claimed it back. Just hop it sorts the problem and runs good again :)
