it seems your ecu is different to mine as well mate. as i said, mine is a 906 033, and yours is a 906 019

i guess your 1.6 isnt an AUR engine. i suppose that doesnt really matter since u've decided to let the garage fix it. i think i would do the same in your position mate.

so whats ur 1.6 sport like? and how long have you had it? its not often i get to chat to other sport owners! there's not many about!

why not buy the ecu, and get someone from here, who is local to fit it for you with their vagcom, takes me 2 mins to do an ecu swap. will save a bit on fitting anyway.
the problem with the ecu is water ingress, its where they are fitted, underneath a water run off area!! doh
its quite common on mk3 ibiza/mk4 polo

standing in front of your car, it's on the left hand side under the wiper tray.

ah excellent cheers mate, the AA man today thought it was in my pass foot well. so its defo under the wiper tray on a mk3? If it is the ECU what are the chances of me just needing to replace the eprom, if you know?thanks again

Be careful that the ecu isnt also waterlogged as itll mean you cant transplant any proms, itll be a new ecu entirely.

Hey James,

Its that time of year, im supprised this hasn't happened to more people...
Lots of rain + shoddy ECU placement/protection = dead ECU!

I had two go (due to water penetrating the gasket) within 12 months! at least the second got replaced under warranty.

I had no luck getting a second hand one but that was a couple of years ago, so you might have more luck.

Good luck with getting it sorted out.

Once you have I suggest covering the ECU and surounding area with some plastic sheeting. this will deflect the majority of the water coming off the wiper arm while still letting it dry out if there is some condensation.
This seems to have done the trick as mines been fine for 18 months (touch wood) and I now check fairly regularly just in case!

my ECU in my cupra has gone tits up according to the man at seat. Tryingto find a replacement is complete murder.

Nah, the ECU unit is easy to fit mate. On the Cupra there are two sliders that pull out each way, then the unit un-plugs. There are a few bolts to un-bolt and thats it. Took me about 5 mins to take it off and just as quick to put it back in.
