MPG, as many would criticize me for it, but 5-10mpg, up to 10k miles a year, isn't that much money. It's nice to save money, but in my situation, the extra fuel, wasn't a deal breaker.

For me it was more about the environmental impact than the monetary cost. I considered the 1.4 an acceptable compromise between environmentally friendly and fun to drive. But that is very much a personal choice and I would never criticise someone for making a different one.

With the new road tax system - they will both carry £140 a year so even the government don't care about emissions any more.

Just because the current government doesn't care about emissions doesn't mean I shouldn't.

I thought this initially as it seems odd to charge a flat 140 for everything but they're also charging for everything so they're charging a lot more drivers in the process. Hybrids have emissions too afterall.

And if the list price of a vehicle (including options and before any discounts) is £40k or more, then there’s an extra £310 per year VED to pay on top of the £140 for 5 years from the second time the vehicle is taxed.

I bought in to the emissions crap a few years ago when they convinced everyone that Diesel was clean.

Now my diesel is worth jack sh*t as a trade in because of the U-turn on diesel and all the additional taxes applied ( extra road tax, diesel tax for city centres etc )

The stealers are all over playing the game knowing the majority of owners will just blame the government rather than accepting that they are taking the p*ss.

1.8tsi engines does put down more than on the specs.
Torq has been between 280-300nm, so a lot more than 250nm what it stated on tech specs.
Also bhp has been bit over 190bhp.

That is not all but the power band is so much wider than in 1.4tsi.
Gearing is quite long on 1.8tsi manual so it pulls smoothly and speedo will raise not just the revs like in 1.4tsi.

Economy...dont give a **** if it consumes 6litre/100km or 7litre/100km...its still very little.

Also rear suspension, sooooo much smoother, not just better grip when pushing it through corners.
Ride is so much refine with multilink rear vs cart axle.
And NOT just the rear...front suspension is also much better, 55mm struts offer better damping and steering knuckles are alloy, wheel bearing is larger.
Brakes are stronger.

So really...1.8tsi is closer to Cupra
1.4tsi is better match to 1.2tsi or 1.0tsi

Despite the suspension I'm impressed with my 1.4 fr handling wise. Does everything I need it too with relatively quick road use. Just as capable as other cars I've had with multi link read ends. Probably notice the difference more on track but 95% of us won't be doing that anyway.

As a track is smoother your notice more difference on our roads with independent suspension, especially if you carry weight..
