Had some right fun and games looking for oil today. Ibiza cupra TDI. Handbook says 506.01.... so called up francis seat in leicester to ask if they had any. I was told they would use 505.01 :censored:.......... so then i called Opie oils, who was superb and suggested to use 507. So thats what i bought from halfrauds as i needed some asap. But i will defo buy from Opie oils in the future. Very helpful.

Either stick to 505.01 or replace all engine oil with 507 spec...both are 5w40 fully synthetic and presumably Longlife

You need something that's rated to VW505.01 which includes anything rated to VW506.01 and VW507.00 as they're both backwards compatible. I tend to use Castrol Edge in my car, but that's only because I picked up a load of it cheap in Costco. :)

505.01 is 5w 40 and standard service interval.

504/507 is 5w 30 and is longlife service interval, but includes the required specification for standard service interval (see above).

ok..i will buy castrol edge 5w-40 (vw 505.01)..thanx

Be careful when buying Castrol Edge. The "Castrol" part is the manufacturers name. The "Edge" part is their branding name, and not all "Edge" oils are suitable for a pd engine. As you say, Castrol Edge 5w 40 with VW505.01 is suitable though (although personally I think it's crap).

When I last went to the seat service, "Castrol slx prof b4 5w-30 diesel" oils were made. I dont know that oil 505.01,or not.. Is an oil better than the Castrol EDGE for my car?

I personally go for Quantum Platinum (VW own brand) which is 505.01 and 5W40. Just bought it at TPS last week - 5 liter can for £15.70 plus VAT (ask for trade prices or their Price Club discount).

My Golf needs 504/ 507, so I always buy VW Quantum Longlife in 'bulk' (25 litres) and then use the same in my Ibiza TDi PD. Normally costs about £110-£120 for the 25 litres.

Have you read any of this thread at all?

Castrol Magnatec carries no specification suitable for a pd engine. 10w 40 is not even the correct weight for a VAG group tdi.

Ok I've done some reading, would I be able to use the following 5w-30 Full synth.

My car is a VW 2.0 TDi would it be ok to use this oil in my engine ?

Its conforming to ACEA and API standards etc, which according to my spec is ok to use, just what would be the effect of a different full synth oil, there is another product that is specifically for VW here.

I'm getting the first at half price.. motor factors closing down..

The first product you link to is not suitable and will void your warranty. The second product is adequate, but given that it's Comma personally I'm not convinced it's too good.

It's a newer spec oil so more technology gone into its development for a start. As for the 30 weight over the 40 weight, very little difference in real terms. Slightly better fuel economy, cleaner exhaust emissions, lower soot, better lovemaking, more successful in business are all things which may or may not have any bearing on the issue.

Certainly, VW now specify this spec oil for all TDI service intervals.
