Oil warning engine problem

hi,

my mom and bro decided to drive my 210R down to Devon and on the way the oil warning light came on, and in their infinite wisdom they continued to drive down as all seemed well. They stopped at a service station and although the oil level was ok, they added another litre of oil and continued on. Shortly after the car wouldnt accelerate past 60mph and then just outside Cornwall the engine stopped completly and I had to have it towed back! the Engine isnt starting but the started motor and cambelt are all turning when i attempt to. The oil level is about 1cm above the maximum level on the dipstick. Any ideas on the problem or is the engine a write off do you think? Like i said the oil level looked fine when they checked!

any advice would be appreciated!
cheers

im no expert put have you checked to see if your getting sparks at the plugs? take a coil pack (and plug) out an see if your getting a spark. have you got aa? get them to plug in to see what brings up, thats where i would start. i had my oil warning light come on once, went yellow so when got home changed filter an oil an not had problem since, hope get it sorted soon.

I wouldn't try and start the engine again till you find out whats wrong with it. you said the cam belt was turning, was the cam shaft turning too??

I imagine the light flashing at them may well have been the coolant sensor playing up as it does on most leons!

to the OP
oil light as in oil symbol in cluster or red light on coolant gauge.

if gauge your water pump might have failed and youve overheated? head gasket?

when my oil light came on red (month after i bought the car) got a computer put on for diagnstics but no joy nothing came up. my oil pump was on its way out.

i got a new oil pump and changed it the light went out and never had a problem since. mine is an lc cupra pump cost me about £65 and changed it myself at work (approx 1hr)

from reading that i hope its not overfilled, i have had to work on vehicles that are overfilled with oil an never done any of that damage but they were trucks an landrovers so its different, but thanks for teaching me something

scary reading. not sure how much it applies here but worth knowing:)

had it in the garage today and whats happened is the timing belt has gone which is what stopped the engine! the oil light coming on must have been from a blockage somewhere causing one part of the engine to seize! nothing to do with being overfilled! what a nightmare!

Not sure why you started a new thread but,

you said in the first post of this that the cam belt is turning and now that your fault is the cam belt failed

How long had your cambelt been in use and what distance?

The oil light comes on when the engine isn't turning.

Sounds like a cambelt failure, but if you are sure it is a blockage, that needs investigating.
