Seat Leon FR November/2007 2.0TDI 170

So i have some ammo when i visit the stealers on tueday, can anyone that has had this same problem advise how they got this fixed. As i have also seen some mention of the turbo being replaced and i hope that wont be the case.

The reason i want more ammo is they suggest to me that if its not performance effecting that they will not replace it, however it may not be performance effecting but i believe it could reduce the lifespan of the turbo.

This is the problem i have below,

if you let you car go around 1500rpm in 3rd gear and then slowly accelerate to 2000rpm, or even in 4th gear between 1000rpm and 1500rpm you get the cowling/owl/police/whriling type noise. The kind of noise you get from a worn wheel bearing, i know its not the wheel bearing thats causing the noise.

I do know that the N75 boost valve needs replacing as this does vibrate then the revs drop back down, but i doubt this would cause the above noise?

I hear the same noise mate. I thought it was just me! Mines a 2.0tdi 140 though. It's the first turbo car I've had and its getting its second service on saturday so I will bring it up.

I have this 'problem' on my PD140 and it has got significantly more prominent in the last couple of months - probably down to a drop in air temperature.

I got the to check it out when it was in for it's 40k service yesterday.. they said they had run through a 20+ page technical bulletin from Seat relating to the symptoms and there were no problems.

The Seat service bulletin (TPL 2 2014935/1TO) that covers it sounds feasible in that it suggests that the noise is caused by the turbo valve pipe (#03G131055AR) - presumably down to its shape.

As it is not a performance or damage-causing issue I guess it is down to the dealership's discretion as to whether to fix it..?

I'm inclined to think that what the dealer tells you in this instance is untrue.
My mate has a Leon FR 170 TDi which is 3 month older than my car and has done 14k.
His car does not make this noise, i have also read reports of people having the either the boost pipe, boot valve and some even the turbo replaced which stopped this noise.

Its possible that a pipe has come loose and is leaking pressure which could be causing the noise.

The dealer is correct, at current this will not be a performance effecting issue but it could be possible that it could cause parts to fail prematurely.

I do know that the boost valve definatly needs replacing as this vibrates when you come off the revs, so i will definatly get that part replaced for sure.

dont know if this is the same noise but mine mooed just as i turned the car off.then the turbo started cutting out under heavy load but was fine if the car was turned off and on agaiin.anyway the problem seems to have been solved by replacing the solenoid block at the back of the engine on the bulkhead.sorry if this is no help

I would just like to update on this one....
I had the oil changed as i suspected the incorrect oil had been used, and this fixed my problem.
After about 20miles the noise is no more! :)

Castrol Edge 5w/30 was just put in the engine.

I have a 56 plate FR 140 TDi (on 46k) - and mine was making that exact same noise 2 weeks ago. Worryingly it makes the nosie in any gear - and even when stationary and you rev it!

Took it to the dealer who seemed to know all about the issue, and told me that Seat were claiming the noise was normal - however mine was louder than they had heard in any other car.

A week later and my car has a 'new turbo' and the car was nice and silent - until yesterday. The noise is now back, and sounding louder/worse than last time. Has anybody got any other info about this problem, or am I destined for another week of no car while the dealer and Seat UK argue about what to replace (if anything)???

I certainly won't be keeping the car if this noise is 'normal' - driving me nuts and not making me feel very confident (

I had oil change with service and I still have the noise! I didn't bother asking about the noise because all the mechanics looked like inbreds im getting rid of it in september anyway.
