im worried for your engine too.
thats a fairly big hole and the oil runs out pretty quickly...
oil light comes on when oil pressure is lost i believe, so it can all happen pretty fast.

fingers crossed for you.

alot of repair places write off vag engines were there has been sump damage.
(pretty rare people turn engines off straight away and often drive the car to get it off the highway which can be enough to kill it).

i really didnt drive it far after the light came on but like you said doesnt take much :( havent been able to do anything today as everywheres closed as well which just adds to insult plus I wont be able to get home till I get it fixed :(

Yeah a recon engine from SEAT (head and block) wont be far off that and is exchange.

However I just got a 20k 225 bhp Audi TT engine off ebay (complete with K04 turbo, manifolds etc etc) for £1500 for a friends Octavia we are doing, so there are alternatives.

right then I've been quoted an hours labour and £90 for the sump, awaiting the flatbed truck now!!

Council were pretty useless and told me to write them a letter!?!?!?!

Yeah pretty standard, they're not likely to agree anything over the phone!

I'd take it to a citizen's advice bureau for advice in constructing the letter, obviously in making that kind of claim it may go to court??

Don't forget 5L of oil, and a new sump gasket etc too

this happened to me with my old corsa, council didnt want to hear about it soon as they saw the car, said the roads are made for normal cars, said it was my fault for it be stupidly lowered

A good point, but would they say that to a Ferrari or Zonda owner? No, which annoys me, we dont pay road tax, so that we can only drive car's that are at a certain height.

Could they be making the roads that bad, so that the only way you can use them is in a 4x4, which means they save money on road repairs, and make money on higher 4x4 tax?

Or am i just being cynical!

Get some pic's of it,. with today's paper, and if possible something that can help gauge the height of the step, also if possible show the height compared to the width of any ramp-like thing they've built. Then get onto the council.

Keep a copy of all the pics if they ask for them.

Shame about the sump mate :( anyways just thought id say that if you goto the papers or try to claim on it they will turn around and say the ramps have been tested for non-modified factory standard cars and not for lowered vehicles and have signs to warn people. My bro tried this when he smashed the lip on his front bumper his lowered mondeo. Its like getting a water from a stone.

for example iirc Speed bumps cannot be more than a ratio of 10:1 (or 1:10) meaning 1cm into the "ramp" the height cannot be 10cm high.
And numerous speed bumps have had to be replaced because of it.

(This is from memory though, so dont shoot the messenger!)
