Oil Pressure / Level Light

Hi folks,

Searched the forums, but can't seem to see a response to this issue...

My oil pressure/level light (in the square config in the centre of the dash) came on (yellow - stays on...) during my drive to work this morning. Checked the oil level and it was a bit on the low side. So I've topped it off, and the levels now slap bang in the middle of the suggested level. But the light is still on. I've run the engine for a few mins, and it remains on.

My understanding was that having checked the oil levels, opening the bonnet would reset the oil level sensor, but that doesn't seem to have happened.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Tim

Thanks Lee,

Sorry if I'm being blonde, blind or both!

I did check the manual previously, and it says:

"If the pilot light lights up yellow the level is too low. Stop engine and refill oil. See "Engine oil" chapter.
When opening the bonnet the oil level warning isreset. However, if you do not refill oil the warning will reappear after about100 km."

As I have refilled the oil, I'm a bit confused as to why the light's still on...

Think that was the basis for my concern. Can clearly see that the oil level is ok, but not too happy if might include the oil pressure...

Thanks for your help - will get it checked out.

Cheers

Tim

Yeah just read the manual and

Should the warning light flash or light up
while driving you will also hear three
times an acoustic warning as soon as the
engine runs at over 1500 r.p.m. You must
stop the car and turn the engine off: check
the oil level and top up if necessary. See
the "Engine oil" chapter.
If the warning lamp flashes even though
the oil level is in order, do not continue
driving. Do not even run the engine at
idling speed. Call in expert assistance

Aye, that's the one that got me worried! But my read of it was that it referred to the red light as opposed to the yellow light I've got...

Just had quick chat with my local garage, and they said it's more than likely a faulty level sensor. Ok to drive for now, but if the yellow turns red, get over to the side of the road and call for a tow!

Fingers crossed etc etc...
