I can get castrol edge 5w30 oil and filter change from national tyres for £28 job done. Seems good price to me.

What does everyone else recommend?

Too good to be true
Thats cheaper than you can buy the castrol edge alone
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...7303_crumb_33958-53252_parentcategoryrn_77303

of course the first mistake there is buying from halfords...

but i agree, the price given above is pretty unbeatable, too good to be true...

id say they will be putting in their equivalent to castrol edge.. which wont be the same.
Dont forget, there is 'proper' synthetic oil which costs more, and mineral oil that can be processed so its can be legally sold as synthetic, but is not the same. The rule for synthetic oils is if its too god to be true it is too good to be true!

to good to be true - ive always thought this with national tyres. they did my MR2 for the same price last year.
But your not there when they fill it up are you. could be anything. monkeys also snapped my rod to that held up the engine lid!

If it is all ok though, good deal indeed

This canna be correct, they cannot get the old and bits that cheap let alone do the job aswell for that price, I wouldn't be happy that there was definately Castrol Edge in there.
I'd walk away from this deal

surely worth a call though ey chaps? i might give them a buzz tomorrow and see what they say. You can either order online or print the qoute off and take it in.

Theyll have bucket loads of the stuff so can afford to practically give it away i guess.

Its very expensive stuff, its comparible to the Miller 5w-40 I use and its £45 for 4 litres.
I tried to buy some whole sale and couldn't manage to get too much off of it.

I'd expect a chain to be able to buy in bulk quantities and have struck a deal with Castrol/Distributor. It will generate advertising, return sales and people picking up the odd top up bottles. We pay through the noses for oils I imagine there is quite a markup on some of the leading brands if bought via shops/general public etc...

thread revival on this one... im due my service and usually diy, but checked this out and comes to £30.25 with castrol edge 5w30.

gonna book this is and stay to watch them actually putting the 5w30 edge in

they cant advertise this and then use lower grade oils, this surely would be illegal to advertise and use different products.

id say the deal is to sell the oil in bulk and use a low paid trainee to und a sump plug drain it out and change a filter.

tbh, id pay the 30quid instead of diy ass the oil would usually be more than this anyways and its friggin cold at the minute

gonna book the missus beetle in aswell, saves me doing both

they will do hers in 10w40 magnatec for a few quid less.

so 2 cars serviced, stamped for 60quid odd

as i say i will stay there to watch them actually using this oil to be sure.

they cant fcuk a service up, and if they do then its guarenteed anyways.

muchos better diy than trust these guys and its 6quid more to be sure of the right oil and proper change done.

I've used national for my car (ibiza cupra tdi) and my dads honda crv (2.2 tdi) and they can't be beaten for price. The oil used on the ibiza was castrol edge 5w30 to vw 504 00 and vw 507 00. Yes make sure you wait there while it's done although the guys at Huddersfield are alright and seem to take some care over your car.
I asked the manager there how they could do it for the price and he said they do it at a small loss in the hope that people come back for tyres etc.
Oh I write on the printed booking in big letters CASTROL EDGE 5W30 - VW 507 00 and 4.5 LITRES just so they remember.

Although they do put the Castrol Edge in for that price I think its a cheapy non genuine oil filter?

I do same as James, 5w 40 Quantium platinium and genuine filter as its only about £25 :)
