OH NO, here i go again...

For the last month I've been unable to open the passenger door of my 3 door 2005 Ibiza 1.9 TDi FR. The driver's side doesn't put the interior light on when i open it. That's been the case since i bought the car about four years ago.
I called in my local Seat dealer to enquire about their price for both door lock mechanisms. Sadly I couldn't stifle a laugh when the young lad told me they were £199 something each and were available now to order!
£46 for the pair from ebay with a five year guarantee!
Haven't been able to coordinate dry weather with free time since the two locks arrived a week or so ago.
Leaving the carpark at work last night when I went to open the door to get out and open the barrier my door wouldn't open. So I unlocked it on the button and it opened, but with a loud metallic 'TWANG'. A noise I didn't like the sound of AT ALL...
Jumped out, opened the barrier and then quickly drove through. Stopped and then tried to open the door. No resistance on the door handle, just the spring pulling it back. So now I have a passenger door that doesn't open from the inside or outside and a driver's door that only opens from the outside.
At least with my last Ibiza, a 2000 SDi 3 door, with it's continually breaking door barrels they'd open once i'd opened the tailgate, leaned through and unlocked the door.
At the moment I don't know if the cable has broken or it's the actual door handle.
Is this a weakness on this Mk?
I ended up importing metal inner door handles for the last Ibiza and fitting them after the driver's side handle broke and the passenger one was visibly cracking.

Hello there,

It looks like your model of Ibiza does have two cables that possibly can snap, or the plastic clip connections can, resulting in door handles inner or outer no longer working.
Also I think the outer exterior door handles are made of plastic, which can crack and become weak where the cable attaches.
Regarding your interior light that should come on when you open your door, I think possibly there's a small switch incorporated into the door lock/s, whereas older models had a separate switch on the A-pillar or B-pillar.

I've only got as far as buying two complete lock mechanisms for both doors. Having driven Land Rovers for so long it's shocking how soon you get used what other people would see as an unacceptable pain in the arse, so until I can synchronise dry weather with me wanting to get the tools out and have a look, that's as far as I've got...
I don't know what's up with the passenger side because that just stopped working after about four weeks of not being used. I'd just got the Discovery back on the road with a full tank and decided to use it up. Something has broken on the interior of the driver's door but i'll find out what it /they are when I get the inner casing off to change the lock.
Having all of the part numbers will help a lot! Thanks again!
I'll crack on with it once I've fitted the new throttle pedal in the Disco. This one will be the second one in two months. The first one was £16 of ebay, this one £351.12 from Craddocks! What possessed Land Rover to dump the throttle cable and think an electronic position sensor was the smart thing to do, fails me. Other than £15 vs £351 maybe?

I'll post a report when i get it all apart and working again.

Had a major result! Couldn't get the inner metal panel off to hammer the crap out of the lock so popped down to my cousin's garage to consult an expert.
When I got there there was another mechanic mate who had popped in for a chat. He suggested having to remove the glass and the front passenger seat and then predicted major problems in angling the panel to get it off the door with it closed. He then walked around to the passenger side and opened the door...
Neither lock had worked on the passenger door for a long time. I'd tried it in desperation before attacking it before I started working on it, neither worked.
So, with the door open it was a piece of cake to remove the lock, panel and install the new lock.
The issue on the driver's door was the little hook on the Bowden cable at the handle end had sheared. For the time being I've cut back about six inches of the cable outer and replaced it with an equivalent length of stainless steel welding rod connecting to the existing cable using a small terminal block.
When I eventually get around to buying a new cable i'll strip that door down too and change the lock.
