Noisy Tappets on start-up

Hi guys, recently on start up, my tappets have become rather loud, should this be happening? Is it normal? If not, what to do to cure it??

Is it simple to replace the cam tensioner?
So if the oil feed is blocked, should I replace oil pump?

Have you had it on a fault code reader?

Reason i ask is im curious, my car is running fine but is showing a code ' camshaft a over retard point not reached ' and everyones saying its oil pressure issues.

Yours sounds like you need to clean the sump out and strainer if its tapping as noisy tappetts are usually the first signs of a blocked pick up pipe.

Hi last couple weeks im having a simalar issue. I have a leon cupra AUQ. on cold start after being left over night i get a strange rattle noise from my engine.it only lasts two seconds and then its fine the rest of the day should i be concerned.

yes be concerned.
one issue thats often linked with oil starvation is block oil pick up pipe:
sump off job, then remove the guaze in the pick up pipe, this can get blocked with cr@p over time.

obviously check oil level and quality etc, noise on start up might also be an early sign of wear.

I changed the oil about three weeks ago.when i changed the oil it was black looked like it haddent been done for a while i used just over 4 liters of quantum 10w 40 from the stealers. Just so happens i fpund the thread about the pick up after changing the oil. Anyway since changing the oil three weeks ago its used a quater of a dipstick. Was on three quaters nw half. ??? The oil on the other hand still looks in good nick.

Il be doing the pick up pipe this week nw thanks for the heads up chap. Q.is it ok to use 10w 40. The stealer said it was ok.

Ok cheers so the plan is drain oil check and clean pick up pipe. Then if im still geting the same issue of to the vag specialist?

does it start making the noise once the car is warmed up or straight away? I had similar problem very loud tapping noise but only once warmed up and if i rev about 1500rpm the noise would go away and the fix was to replace cam tensioner and now all sorted.

i have recently bought a Seat leon a few weeks ago, i have noticed that it is starting to lose power and there is also a loud tapping noise coming from the engine, was told it was the tappets, i am wondering is there anyway that i could try fix this??

My last post was directed at the op, just read the problem your having, if your losing power then get car diagnosed for faults and go from there. Also when was your cambelt changed last? If a while ago take the top cover off a have a nosey to see if ok.

am not sure when it was changed last.. i had to change the spark plugs there last week.. i thought that was my problem? do they burn away at oil?? ive put in at least 10L since i bought it..

Yours sounds like there maybe issue with coilpack/loom if happened after spark plug change but shouldnt be taking oil like that, do you have any oil leaks?

Hi chris im not greatly noledgeable when it comes to some things around motors. but 10L of oil in a few weeks seems extreamly high and would sound alarm bells of in my head.i would get it looked at asap if it were me m8.

thanks bo! am not to worried about it burning oil am wanting to get the ticking noise fixed beacuse its doin my head in now at this stage
