Noise when starting engine

Hi guys, i ve been having a problem for a while now. When i start my engine thes a screeching sound for a second, it sounds like a "muffled scream" its worse when the engine is cold. i had the car into nationwide and they that they tightend the altenator belt, but it still did it after i left the garage!!

does any1 know what this noise cud be (one of my mates suggested the starter motor)

I would say either the belts or the starter motor.

Surely someone has had the same problem and had it fixed????

It could be the "Secondary Air Injection Pump" Mine got very loud a few months before failing!

If its straight after starting the car and releasing the key i'd say could be starter motor.
