noise like a fan belt, but not a fan belt

Hi,

Ive noticed over the last few weeks that if i have the radio off and there's no talking, if im in 4th accelerating from 30 to 40+, as the revs cross between the 1600 and 1900 rpm mark, i hear a noise which is like a slipping fan belt.

Its not so loud as you can hear it outside or with the radio on, or even if your talking.

Im very sure its not the fan belt (after 12k miles) and looking at the rpm range it may be the DV valve or something to do with the turbo coming online.

Ive had combinations like AC on/off, steering left/right/straight, going up hill, down hill etc and i will always hear something.

Its there reliably enough i could take it into the garage and let them hear it by going a drive along the road.

Any ideas on what it may be?

Thanks,
Stuart

Had exact same problem on my 08 FR Tdi. Took six weeks and many parts changed and in the end turned out to be a slack fan belt. Apparently seat have a dodgy batch. Hope this helps!

i had wondered if it was the fan belt but i cant see why it would slip always in that exact same rev range. Weather or amount of time driven/engine temp makes no difference too.

Will probably take it past, see what they think and get it booked in.

Thanks,
Stuart
