Noise from engine

I have a LCR 2004 and when i start up in cold i get a squeelin and rattling it does die down once warm but notice a rattling there especially when idle. I noticed when im runnin my heated rear screen or air con or somethin like that the noise is louder, as when sitting idle i put my window down and turned them on and of and noticede the noise go louder and quieter due to turning more things on or off.

I was told this could be the alternator pulley or something as its pulling more power the more things u turn on. ALso the louder rattle and squeel when turnin on any ideas???

Is this true and any1 rvery had this and fixed the problem??

My first thought was the poly V-belt (alternator drive belt) when you mentioned the squealing - the rattling is not so healthy! Hopefully it is just the belt, but it sounds like it is perished and should be replaced.

is it expensive and is it a diy or a mechanic job??

DIY job, just make sure you put the new belt on correctly as it has a torturous route (I found out the hard way ).
My car rattles as standard (diesel!!)

I also get this metallic type rattling when idling from a cold start, and it also gets louder if I switch on air-con or demisters. Anyone else have any ideas on this?
