Alright guys, the time has come for my car that the resistor has burnt out and I now have no slow speed fan.

If your sitting thinking "What the fook is he talking about?" then I advise you take a search on the forum, a search on Google then check out your own car.

Basically, all VAG cars have a weak point in the electronic side of things with the fan controller that stops your slow speed fan (The one which comes on with air-con to cool the air-con radiator) from spinning. The only time you'll find you have this problem is when your sitting at traffic lights or sitting at idle then randomly every 5 seconds your front fans will spin to 100% and then stop - then it'll repeat itself.

So, the solution is - if your cars in warranty, print off a load of information from this forum and various other websites and get the full thing replaced. If your cars in warranty - it does not look so good as the unit cannot be repaired.

The easiest solution is to go to SEAT and get the part replaced and be charged around £400 for the repair - which is OK however the problem is more than likely going to come back again.

The other option is to fit an aftermarket fix (Which I am going to do) which is a device that can be purchased from www.nime.co.uk - it costs £85 and only involves connecting three wires to the existing fan controller.

The reason for this thread is the only intructions or help I can find is for the Leon and the Golf Mk4... on these cars the fan controller is underneath the battery tray but as the Ibiza is built on the Polo platform is it the same?

Any help here appreciated guys... I also recommend checking your own car out - there are loads of cars affected and nobody even knows of it. It is not normal for your cars fans to kick in and out a high speed as often as it will do. The concequences are constant burnt out fuses, burnt out wiring or worst of all a fooked air conditioning compressor.

Cheers, any help appreciated on finding the fan controller - don't want to go digging it all out to find it is somewhere else, cause its cold

The fan control must be closed loop system then, so does the unit you describe alter the settings to give a smoother run? Or you could fit a capacitor before the fan to smooth the rapid start up effect?

Yip, what Taz said - there is loads of information on this.

Now, any idea where the fan controller is?

Fan problem-confused!

It never struck me till recently but my fan kicks in all the time and has probably being doing it for around a year or so at a rough guess. I thought nothing of it in the summer but through this winter-as we all know one of the coldest for yonks! It has been consistantly coming on even when the car is started from cold on a morning.

If I leave it to idle for evena couple of minutes then the fan kicks in. I can't see that this is normal and after some searching I'm thinking the above could be my problem?

So has anyone else got this? (Mines a tdi by the way if that makes a difference to this situation?) It would be good to know if it is a common problem as stated above and if anyone has any experience on solving i.e did you go down the same root as described above using an aftermarket product or to a dealer which sounds far too expensive but then what are the consequences of ignoring something like this?
